ANOVOS issues (ANOVOS ONLY discussion)

Odd that it had to go from what? California? and the first recipient we know of is in Sweeden?

I wouldn't have had the guts to post that i got a shipping notice as i'd be afraid i was jinxing it :)

Well, I did pay for the express delivery. If I had kept the original shipping option, I wouldn't have gotten it until late Jan. It wouldn't also be surprising if I was one of the first to order, since I was heavily following all the efforts going on at the time and when it popped up, I jumped on it.

Heh... I was a little afraid to post about it too, but I did get the tracking number and not just an e-mail!

Congrats on finally receiving your jacket! And I'm glad the quality turned out nice. What a huge step forward.

I received an update on the Mandalorian helmet. The first batch of helmets are ready for purchase. Each person that is on the confirmed interest list has been assigned a number. Anovos will send an invoice out by number based on availability. The customer has 48 hours to pay for the helmet. If they do not pay within the 48 hours, the offer will be sent to whoever is next in line and the first customer will be placed at the end of the line. They said it is possible there won't be enough to cover everyone that is on the list in this first batch.

Are they actually ready to ship or are they just ready for purchase? Really don't want to pay if there's no confirmation of delivery dates.

Received and paid for my Mandalorian invoice. I will most likely be canceling my efx orders.

Wait. Let me get this straight. You got an INVOICE from them!? I replied to the email as I was told, said "Yes, put me on the Confirmed List, and I've heard NOTHING from them since the initial email from the 30th. I replied 15 minutes after I got the damn email. *****, I hate HATE this company.

I haven't gotten an invoice yet. I was responding to rnbuda, who'd mentioned he received and paid for the invoice already.

According to them, the helmet is ready to ship. I am looking forward to receiving a shipping notification.

I have had many Anovos items, Luke ESB costume, Han ESB costume, Star Trek TNG top and bottoms, and they all fit me perfectly.
I had a learning curve with their blaster belts since they fit lower than a regular belt but once I had the correct sizes, again they were perfect.

What items gave you issues ?

Another item I was interested to get was the Ant Man jacket but they basically cancelled it.
Blaster belt - Han's to be exact.
I had ordered a medium if I recall and it was too big - Requested to exchange for a small. What I got back after nearly 9 month of waiting was not the same. It had no weathering whatsoever unlike the original. Furthermore, the holster leg strap is still way too big.
I gave up and figure I'll add my own snaps to resize it.

FWIW my Han ESB fits perfect.

Cheers
Steve

Everyone sitting down? Alrighty, good.

IT'S FRICKING HERE.

Somehow, DHL got hold of a Delorean or in some other way changed the space-time continuum and delivered my Solo jacket (as well as a Sideshow 3PO) a whole day early. It boggles the mind, dunnit? (Again, keep in mind that I paid a extra to get DHL Express shipping...)

So... very quick review:

It's very nice. No, scratch that.... it's actually great overall. Better than most China/Pakistan/India-made leather I've owned. If that seems underwhelming, keep in mind that I'm usually horribly nitpicky with clothing fit... if something is a few mm off on one side it'll bug the hell out of me- especially when it comes to suits. I had my Logan Browncoat tailored, as well as my Anovos TOS and TNG premiere tunics. I'm generally a nightmare to deal with when it comes to custom clothes.

Now, I haven't had time to scrutinize the details yet compared to the screen jacket but here are some comments:

Fit:
The fit is fantastic for a "store bought" jacket. The Large is spot-on. I'm neither slim nor chunky and this closes nicely without looking baggy. The often dreaded "duck tail" back you find on many off-the-rack leather jackets is NOT present here. A+ for that Anovos. Sleeves are at a perfect length for me (as has been the case with all Anovos L-sized items except the first Picard jacket, which was completely whacko in terms of size). The leather is pretty stiff at the moment, so even though the sleeve width is very good, they look a tad wide around the elbows because the leather does not yet "settle".

Construction:
Overall, very nice. Stitching looks good... straight and even for the most part. NOTHING like the Jyn Erso gloves we saw last year. I haven't yet found any odd wrinkles or misaligned pieces, so all good there. If I had one thing to comment on, it might be that due to the stiffness of the leather, the shoulder seams are not perfect- i.e. the leather doesn't "flow" perfectly, but that will hopefully sort itself out as it gets worn in. (The shoulders are nice and square though. There's also a small "wrinkle " where the collar meets the front edge, most likely (again) due to the stiffness of the leather combined with having been folded flat for several weeks. The magnetic closures seem fairly strong, but will probably pop open if you do a fast/violent movement.

Material:
Leather has an even grain. Thicker than I expected, possibly thicker than the screen jacket (which looks paper-thin). Maybe a conscious choice to give better durability, since many of us will be wearing this out. Some scratch-tests indicate that this will weather very nicely. It's a bit still at the moment, but some leather polish and time should take care of that. It arrives in lightly distressed condition, with a matte sheen and some very, very light edge-weathering. The lining is acetate- slightly disappointing as I was hoping for screen-accurate cotton. (Maybe I'll have that changed.) The included ammo cartridge-greeblies are "OK"... spray-painted resin castings, but since they're a freebie it's hard to complain. (I have my aluminum machined copies in the photos, so it's fine.) Color of the leather is a dark chocolate brown... seems accurate enough.

Verdict:
Was it worth the money and wait? I got it at the initial $500, so overall I'd say absolutely, yes. And lest the naysayers jump in with some kind of accusation, I'm not just happy to "get something" at this point- I am definitely happy with this so far, that I didn't jump off or request a refund, and will absolutely be wearing it. I'm actually wearing the thing as I write this, haha! (Certainly, I'd rather have gotten it a long time ago, but aside from the excruciatingly long wait time, Anovos delivered the jacket they promised. ) Is it worth the current $800 asking? I don't know... maybe... IF it turns out to be the most accurate overall, then yeah... but if one of the other makers is more accurate (which I don't think at the moment, but could be wrong about) then maybe not. When I have time, I'll go back over my old research files (I helped both Danny and Magnoli with detailing on their versions) and see how it looks overall.

And now, what you really wanted... the photos. Keep in mind that this is hanging on a mannequin that is MUCH too skinny for it, so it looks more baggy than is does on me and it's still a little affected by the flat shipping. (We'll see if I get around to uploading a picture of me wearing it once the leather relaxes a bit.)

In closing, while I don't consider everything "forgiven", nor are Anovos out of the woods yet, but this was a VERY good sign for them and makes me think that the ship will get righted in the end, though it might take a while yet.

Agreed. 1960s patterning was just... odd. People were shaped differently!

I'm gonna say it... I'm disappointed. The leather isn't even close to screen accurate. Way too thick and isn't even the same grain. I have Danny's and it's way more accurate in appearance. Maybe over time it will soften up a bit, maybe needs more weathering, maybe in person it's better... I'm willing to give it the benefit of doubt but... I don't know.

They assigned each person on the confirmed list a number. They are going through the numbers like in a line at a deli counter. When they get to your number, they send an invoice. You have 48 hours to pay. If you don't pay within the 48 hours, that invoice is sent to the next person in line and you go to the back of the line. It wasn't a mass email sent to everyone at the same time.

This method should prevent people paying for an item long before it is ready to be shipped to them.

They haven't said if enough helmets are ready to cover everyone on the confirmed list.

Ahh yea I had to get a different sized Han blaster belt as well. I needed a small as well. I needed a medium for Luke's.

The costumes fit very well though.

Ditto and I am going a step further, boycotting ALL things Disney as they are now, imo, complicit in Anogos stealing from their customers, with Product that SHOULD have been going to their long suffering Customers ending up in their Parks instead

Cram it right up your arse Mickey and FRAK YOU TO!!
If this was Disney we would all have are stuff. This is Anovos a seller with a contract. No different then Amazon. Anovos is the ones doing the dirty deeds. Disney parks buys products from thousands of vendors. Disneyparks have no control how Anovos operates. That is a different part of the Parent company.

The original is probably 1mm-1.5mm thick leather, whereas the Anovos seems to be 1.5-2.5 or thereabouts.

I would have preferred thinner leather too, but after wearing almost exclusively leather jackets (lots of them) for the last 30+ years I'm willing to give them a bit of a pass on not having it exact. Matching grain and surface of a specific piece, which I've tried to do, can be nigh-on impossible, even when speaking directly to those that work with leather. Thickness is a lot easier to match than surface finish though, so it must've been a conscious choice to go with thicker leather. (It's thinner than a few other jackets I have though.) Danny was very fortunate to find something as close as he did- if his tailor had gotten some of the patterning details closer, he would have killed all other makes. I wore the jacket around the house for a few hours yesterday and it softened quite a bit in that short time and the surface is such that scrapes and scratches will be lighter than the surface, so it'll match the screen one more over time in terms of weathering. (Run a fingernail or metal butter knife along a seam edge when you get it and you'll see what I mean.)

The thinkness of the leather is really makes sense in that a lot of clothes made for movies and TV shows are made for the comfort of the actor in mind and so leather jackets are usually made of a thinner leather. The thing I'm not thrilled about is the difference in the grain as that is very easy to see.

I'm thrilled for the people that are starting to receive them and I hope this means things may get better but there a still a LOT of people who have been waiting years for things.

So Disney Parks getting Anogos items and selling them when said items have NOT been shipped to Customers who have paid in full years ago is not a conflict of interest?

As far as the parks being a separate part of the Company is a moot point.

They are DISNEY and we do NOT have all of our stuff plain and simple PERIOD.

Well, my news isn’t quite as exciting as someone receiving product, but I did get an email response, finally. (For those following along at home: Ordered July 2017, refund requested January 2019. Then no response to any emails since May 2019.)

Now I get this:

“We have not forgotten about you and want you to know we are working on getting things organized on our end.”

“If you would prefer store credit, that is something we can address straight away. If not please know we are working towards your refund as quickly as business allows.”

So, apparently business doesn’t allow them to refund $400 within a one year time-frame. Nice that they haven’t forgotten me though, right? I certainly haven’t forgotten.

What a load of ****!

I feel for you brother
