ANH Vader "Mystery" Helmet update

Jeff didn't originally create the latch, however. A very reliable source informed me that the forehead latch was a modification made to a set of tour suits made back in the 70's. ...and yes, there were tour suits.

I guess it's just bad luck that not one single photograph has appeared in over 30 years showing one of these "Tour" helmets with a dome latch.

Still, we live in hope for an ABS TK stunt helmet

If so I would have thought you would have wanted to parade it all over the place in order to vindicate what you've been saying.

Apologies Propsculptor as this thread of yours is veering some what off course. I'm sure with your skills that you will make a very nice Vader replica so I watch on with interest.

Kermit Eller also mentioned in his interview recently that there wasn't any other Vader's on tour until by the time of ESB, and by that time it had also been refitted for the ESB look, so I would also really like to see such proof.

RKW, that sounded quite a bit like one of your typical baiting and inflaming comments. Thread was still on topic since the cabinet latch is a topic of interest in this project. You took it off topic all by yourself.

No Humor man, I've seen more than one photograph of ANH styled tour suits. These were used at Toys R Us, I believe around '78/'79. If you ever get to see the pics, you'll understand how much less accurate the tour suits/helmets were compared to the one film suit/helmet. Those pics surface here at the RPF from time to time.

PS, I'm very interested in seeing your progress.

In the Hyperspace article about Kermit Eller they posted a picture of the Toys R Us poster advertising appearances by Vader, Stormtrooper and Chewie in the last few days of September. The photos provided by GH from Toys R Us are dated Oct 77. It is very likely that it's Kermit in those photos.

I don't know about anyone else but I remember very clearly meeting Darth (Kermit Eller) Vader when he came to town (at our local Mall) and he even signed a Photo that I still have to this day.

It was very interesting to read that Kermit Article and finally find out after all these years who was actually behind that mask and read the story behind the scenes.. :thumbsup

PS, Im with Vaderdarth on this... if it aint broke don't fix it. I think it is clear that the Mystery helmet predates the Fyberdyne and I dont think messing with the latch can do any good to this project.

Just my 2 cents...... and Id also like you to PM me with details on getting one of these.

You'll agree that tour suits were made for ESB? The did, both in the US and internationally. So then why not ANH? And why would they make just a single tour suit...it wouldn't make any sense. The fact that ANY tour or promotional suit exists shoots down the "there were no tour suits" theory.

Well, considering GH's past involvement in the film industry, I'd bet he's crossed paths with many different people, one's who worked or knew someone who worked on SW, also people who worked for DPS. I'm sorry to say this, but I'd take GH's word over almost anyone here, due to the fact that he's been in the industry and considering that he's a Vader fan like us, I'm sure he got to talk to people in the know.

I also would love to see pics of an ANH Tour Vader, but I would've used "Please share", not "Prove it" insinuating that he's lying, or worse.

Exactly. I feel the same way. I fail to see why GH's information always seems to spark a huge debate. He has nothing to gain by lying to the membership.

I don't think GH is lying at all, I also worked in the Film Industry and after talking to GH realised that he and I worked together on a movie years ago, small world..
