Well, considering GH's past involvement in the film industry, I'd bet he's crossed paths with many different people, one's who worked or knew someone who worked on SW, also people who worked for DPS. I'm sorry to say this, but I'd take GH's word over almost anyone here, due to the fact that he's been in the industry and considering that he's a Vader fan like us, I'm sure he got to talk to people in the know.
[/b]

Exactly. I feel the same way. I fail to see why GH's information always seems to spark a huge debate. He has nothing to gain by lying to the membership.
[/b][/quote]

The whole provenance of the GH helmet, Fyberdyne, Jeff helmets etc are all based on them being copies of an ANH Tour helmet despite no photographic evidence in over 30 years to support this. That's why it sparks huge debate and why the onus is on GH and Co to prove it when they are so adamant ANH Tour suits were created rather than making the rest of us jump through hoops chasing phantoms. I find it makes even less sense having a guy touring around in a screen used costume (worth $100,000 at the time) when you had supposedly made a series of tour suits for the job. Yes, tour suits existed for ESB because it was a well established success by this time so the studio marketing was in full swing unlike ANH when they had no clue as to how well the film would do. Add to this that Kermit Eller is the only man credited with wearing a Vader costume, Don Post Studios reportedly has no knowledge of making any ANH tour suits and LFL doesn't recognise the Fyberdyne helmet.

I see no reason for any knowledge of tour suits to be hidden, I mean heaven forbid that we should all have accurate replicas of tour suits if this knowledge gets out into the public :rolleyes

Again it boils down to personal preference. I can understand why people who work hard and do massive amounts of research do not want to share all their results with any ol' Joe who comes along. As well, I can see the desire of the people who do not have the information to want it shared.

If it were me, I would only share it with people I felt wanted it for the right reasons and not for personal financial profit. That said, Ive seen GH and others burned before (recently) and I respect his decision to not share the pics with everyone.

I hope I will be able to afford a Mystery helmet. When do you expect the kits to be ready? I wont be able to afford it until after Christmas (I have three kids :) ).

you know why people that know alot dont shed more light on things, even when it seems like they would?

cause it sparks even more debate and nay saying, no one ever hears something that changes what they know and go... OH COOL. no, instead they say what there friend heard, and what they read, and what they saw etc. etc.etc.

ive noticed this ALOT here in the past year or so.

everything ive read from GH leads me to believe he knows more than... about anyone here on vaders.

hell even Gino doenst argue with him. :p

just the same as really no one can argue with Gino about TKs... yet they do... everytime he tries to share anything... thats why i, being the Uber nerd that i am... shut up and listen when someone knows something that i dont in the way of SW... now i know that people arent going to subscribe to that way of thinking with all the super egos floating around here... but i always find its better to listen and think about it later, than to start debating as soon as someone tries to tell you something... if you shut up, you might learn something, if they are full of it, it will eventually come to light, and with the aformentioned 2... i havent seen them proven wrong yet. ;)

-----rant over-----

That's because he was told not to by the mods. So I don't see your point.

Also, everyone else has to back up their "claims", so why not GH (and GINO), instead of people just accepting the "I know, but I can't/won't share" response. That gets old very fast.

But I guess we should just let it lie, as it's simply too boring to waste more time on people "knowing", but not showing.

I know this much...there are 4 names that have been passed around since I got started researching the suit back in 97, Ghost Host, Gino, VaderPainter, and VaderMaker. VaderMaker has passed away(and from what I understand, was uberrespected by everyone because of his knowledge and he was a hell of a nice guy)VaderPainter is a real dick, which leaves GH and Gino. You dont have to agree with everything everyone says, and if you dont believe something someone says, do the research until you can either prove them right or wrong. But Ill say this, and we should all be very happy about this...The RPF, is filled with extremely knowledgeable, POLITE and FRIENDLY people. And on the internet, do you know how rare this is? Every day Im blown away by how mellow everyone is, how polite, there never seem to be arguments at all, and when there are, its just differances of opinions. Now, Im sorry if this is thread hijacking, so Ill just go now and start saving pennies for this mask. Whereever it came from, and whoever made it originally, all that matters is that its neat and I want one. Isnt that what this hobby is all about?

That's because whenever we "debate", it always turns bad.
But let me be clear when I say that it is NOT because I believe him to be more knowledgeable about vader stuff than me. That would be ridiculous.

Well in my experience I think that GINO and GH both know a lot, who really cares who knows more? That's not important. What is important is that there is a wealth of knowledge here on the RPF about Vader and tons of other things and I am personally a more knowledgeable person because of all I have learned from "experts" and "non-experts". :) I have learned from GINO and GH alike, as well as others who really know a lot such as SithLord.

:rolleyes Ignorance is bliss, eh old friend? :lol

But seriously, why make a statement like this unless you're trying start trouble? You have no means to measure what I know on a subject, nor I you. I do respect many qualities you posess regarding prop analysis and educated guesses. But like the rest of us, you do make mistakes. Humility would serve you well.

This always seems to happen to Vader threads. :)

Point taken. ;)

Now I'll just sit back and await updates and hopefully stay clear of derailing stuff.

I would appreciate this thread staying on-topic, I realize everyone has an opinion but the debates really don't get us anywhere, I'm also glad to hear the thread was unlocked, I was not aware it was locked in the first place. :)

It's also not a matter of who knows more (There's always someone else who knows more), but also who is willing to share, I've shared everything I know about this "Mystery" Helmet I'm offering and any new info I find out, but no-one is required to tell everything they know, that's their choice entirely, and if they do offer information they shouldn't be treated like they are in a Court of Law and told to prove it.

Work is really keeping me busy, so I may have to wait until Friday or Saturday at the latest to post the update photos, I apologize for the delay.

Apology accepted.

Just please try and avoid any barrel distortion when you take those shots. :thumbsup

Good point, when taking your photos.........stay roughly 8 feet from your subject..........and it's best outdoors with overcast skies. This eliminates all glare and you don't have those pesky flash artifacts all over your helmet. A good friend of mine gave me this advise and it has really improved the quality of my photos dramatically.

Dave :)

Sorry again to those waiting patiently for the Photo update, I'll have to post the Photos tomorrow since I wasn't able to take the Photos before the Sun went down, so I'll post the pics tomorrow nite.

Here are the photos, I wasn't able to take pics outside since it got dark before I had a chance,
I'll post more photos this week with better lighting.

I chipped away at the forehead bondo covering the Latch and it was just filled in with more bondo.

I added bondo to the left cheek to get the correct curve that was missing before, I also smoothed out a lot of rough areas that were originally covered by layers of bondo, and I chipped out the excess material in the teeth area that was filling in the recesses a lot.

I'll be cutting the neck down tomorrow since it's too long and the shape is off, and fixing the areas around the edges of the eyes.

Looking good on the left cheek, though the right is still a tad too straight, imo - has to curve down a little at the tip, if you know what I mean. I can definitely see a lot of things I would correct, to make it more like the screen helmet... but good job so far on the clean-up.
