ANH * Death Star Laser Turret

What is the separation between the Plastruct T-profile? Perhaps a width of styrene strip, or a width of Plastruct could be placed in between the T-profile in order to get the separation correct?

Thanx guys.

And Taz, i myself wouldn't use a strip of anykind in between the t-profile. If the strip is off by even a 0.1mm, after 25 t-profiles, you'll end up with a 2,5mm discrepancy. And correcting halfway, means that half of them are wrong.

You can use the engraved positioning dots as they are machined into the inside walls. That's why i made them, so one wouldn't have to worry about placing the t-profile. It's a go from there, you'll have to do a bit yourself.

AIEEEEE IT'S SO COOL.

I made these sound effects from samples I sourced (stole) on line. This is the brain for the Death Star Laser Turret project, tested in a tank of course.

There are turret-centric snippets of dialog (you hear one of them in the video), elevation, rotation, and the turbo laser sound which I flanged/echoed/bass-boosted to get closer to how it sounded in the film… the recoil of the barrels (not shown) will trigger the sound effect… OH MAN. I am psyched. All will be radio controlled from a 2channel radio. ( I assembled/layered the sounds in Garageband from samples - proud of the turret rotation, since I think it sounds very Star Wars-y)

Once I get it all figured out, you can get one too... I think it'll be moderately expensive, LOL.

I'll just link you to the vendor when he gives the green light- can't get cheaper than that!

Awesome Jason :thumbsup

I have one more panel to do (left panel on turret). But i miss one dimension from the Bandai 1/24 Jagd Panther (Not the regular Panther G). I don't have this one, only the Panther G, which is the wrong one. The kitpart is embedded tight in the panel. And my guesses are off by 0,5mm or so. And sorry, the kitscan doesn't give enough info.

Can anybody help me with the EXACT width of the engine hatch ? Preferably in mm, and more importantly down to 0,xx mm (2 digits behind the comma).

And don't forget, it's the Jagd Panther :)

In advance thanx.

Cheers,
Wasili

That's a pretty extensive donor kit list. I can imagine your workshop brimming with half used kits!

Must cost a fortune in research time and actual currency.

I must say though that from the look of the overall project it's an absolutely superb finish.

HOLY HOLY HOLY CRAP !!!!!! Absolutely amazing !!! :0

Guys, thanx for the enthusiasm. :thumbsup :thumbsup
@ Stonky:
I use Rhino 3D as my preferred 3d modelling software. Fits in nicely with AutoCAD for 2d and my cnc software/hardware.

Interesting, I've been meaning to give it a try - you're definitely making a solid case for it. :) I've thought about getting some of my stuff milled/printed as well, I'll check it out.

Great stuff!

First saw this thread now, and I must say, very well done!

Incredibly accuracy and it's just stunning how you take all sort of different parts and mix them together and make a piece of art like this. Love it, and keep it up! :)

Width is 4.7cm length is 8cm, not a digital reading but pretty much right on the button

Thanx guys :)

And thx Mike for the dim. I machined the spot now as 47,5mm wide, giving the kitpart a tad space.

As for updates, i think i can officially say, the turret is done. :D

I'll be spending a bit of time with the kids now, as it's their last day before school starts tomorrow (and so does my new job), so here's a quick teaser. Sorry for the poor quality, and the messy background. I cropped it a bit, but didn't want to cutout the misses. Way more pics tomorrowevening.

Have a good one :thumbsup :cheers :popcorn

Oh, and by 'done', i actually mean that my kit is done. I'll be building one up with kitparts and paint and all, but i'm sure Jason will beat me to it.

YEAH!!!
Now to get it into my hands so I can get this made - less than a month to go!!! WOOO
