As a new member i've started my second scrachbuild project.

I decided to start an own thread after joining in into a WIP thread to make the Stormtrooper more present against the billion IronMan WIP-Threads.

inspired by this work and the famous results of terra1

http://www.therpf.com/f24/stormtrooper-pepakura-terra-returns-pics-122443/index2.html

and also great build of echo5633

http://www.therpf.com/f24/anh-trooper-build-135269/

i decided to try my own experience.

so i've started with the pepacura from the .PDO-files provided by spacecowboy

http://www.therpf.com/f24/symmetrical-anh-stormtrooper-helmet-pepakura-157465/

May run in trouble later by using thick printerpaper (100g/qm) instead of cardbord.

Have somebody done that with that kind of paper?
I hope applying epoxy later will not ruin the paperwork?

Here are some pics from last two days work on it, not yet finished.

Update:

Pepakura is done, now i can go to fiberglas it.

Must talk to my neighbor, a former canoe-world-champ who build his own canoes....

Re: ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP from Newbie

Looks great to me. I'am also trying to get in to the world of pepakura! Finished my first attempted at Iron Man today and it doesn't look to great.

Would you recommend trying a stormtrooper to another newbie?

Re: ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP from Newbie

First coat of Epoxy Resin is done on the outside...

My fear was that the thicker printer paper i've used instead of cardboard for the pepakura get soaken wet and collapse... :rolleyes

But it didn't happend!

I hope that wenn the epoxy is completly cured tomorrow i can got to fiberglass the inside with the same epoxy and fibercloth

I think i wouldn't recommend any pepakura to a complete newbie :love

Re: ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP from Newbie

Applied one layer of fiberglas-matt on the inside, wait for epoxy to cure in the next 24h.

Wondering how many layers of fiberglass are needed to get it stiff enough to cary the Bondo

or is bondo flexible enough to stay on if the helmet is squeezed?

Great start, but the dome section of the lid looks "off" to me somehow...maybe too high!?

I'm a member of the 501st Legion and have a ANH TK. You should check out whitearmor.net There is alot of great info there. Good looking helmet!

Got the same idea, could be the missing black rubber brow?

Also the perspective from above is unusual, most screenshots and pictures (for example at starwarshelmets.com) are from a lower point of view

Also I don't know how accurate space cowboys files are, what defenitly comes wrong on my build is the lower cheek area.

Looks good! I used 250g/m² paper and one polyester resin layer on the inside (with 300g fiberglass) and one layer on the outside on my stormtrooper build: http://www.therpf.com/f24/stormtropper-helmet-pepakura-143191/

But on my next pep build I used one layer white polyester gelcoat on the outside instead of the polyester resin. It adds a lot of strength to the helmet. Maybe one or 2 thin layers of gelcoat helps your helmet to reduce its flexibility?

Re: ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP from Newbie

I used 100g/qm paper!

Then one coat of epoxy on the outside and one fiberglassed coat of epoxy on the inside an it get really stiff and strong.

I think I have to reinforce the opening of the bucket und apply a last coat of epoxy on the inside.

Nice build you done have..

Re: ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP from Newbie

Pictures with "Brow" an from an lower point of view, dome seems to be ok?!

The red line marks the part which must be corrected

Re: ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP from Newbie

Inside Fiberglassing is done:

Gets realy strong, no problem that the pepakura build is done with paper instead of cardboard....

I'm happy

Now entering Bondo Stage... let the 'sanding fun' begin

Re: ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP from Newbie

Your build is very impressive, Toxx; it's the cleanest, most proportionate / symmetrical Pepakura trooper bucket build I've seen at the fiberglass stage. You should require a minimum amount of bondo to get it into shape - and if you do it as well as you've performed so far I'm expecting you'll create an exceptional replica.

Thank you,

my goal doing the pepakura was to make it as accurate as possible but dont' spent too much time on it.

And have to use less bondo instead of ending up with a solid rock bucket weight of 10 lbs or so.

I'm happy the epoxy doesn't let it get out of shape too much, my greatest fear now is to mess it all up with the bondo :)

Re: ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP from Newbie

First light coat of bondo added to the dome

wait for cure and a first sanding

Re: ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP from Newbie

after sanding the first time, it was very easy using a mousesander.

wondering about the weight, partial coverd with bondo only it is still 580 grams ( 1,25 lbs).

Are all Bondo-Buckets as heavy?

Re: ANH Stormtrooper Helmet WIP from Newbie

Update

added some more Bondo and did a first sanding:

Now the Bucket weights 750 gr. or 1 3/4 lbs
