Ancient Iron Man Armour (WIP, PIC HEAVY)

A little bit of progress tonight. Base colours of helmet added. Weathering and verdigris still needed.

Also played around with some lighter copper shades on the body. Not sure if i like it yet. I think I'll definitely add a more substantial gold ring around the core.

Loving this! I have an idea you may have already thought of but thought I'd toss it out there anyway - how about lighting the arc reactor with flicker-flame bulbs to make it look like a flame lantern!

I had thought about a red light but not a flickered one. It'll make the arc reactor look like a proper furnace. Also not sure about the eyes, maybe a deep red or yellow bulb?

Man awesome rust effect looks like it should be in a museum :cool but ya should put beads of glue and once painted over will look like welded pieces just an idea...but looks really cool and original:thumbsup

Yeah I'm using that very technique on the mark 1 suit I'm making:

However, since welding is a relatively new technology I've kept with old school rivets for this one.

yeah flame lights would be too busy for the eyes, I think, so definitely something muted but still lit would be OK IMHO. glad you liked the lantern/furnace idea tho!

Update:

These S and M looking things will be the shoulders. They took AGES to put together. Foam is so much easier.

Interesting material though - a cross between rubber and plastic, much more flexible than a dustbins.

This trip has led me to re-asses my original paint work. At the moment it's way too thin and light. The armour needs to tell a story and look a lot older. It should look like it's been in and out of salt water forever. More rust where water would have drained, older fixtures at the joins, rougher pieces etc. A real Diving Bell look. This is going to take a while and a lot of Rub n Buff.

The original design is STEALTH's easy to build foam templates applied to the trash can technique . However, as the build progresses I'm going to add clunkier pieces to make it seem less sophisticated. Not quite Steam Punk, but maybe Victorian?

E.g. The arc reactor will probably end up looking at lot like this:

I'm working by feel but would like to end up with a piece that would not look out of place in an armoury museum - the original inspiration for this look.

I like were this could go.
Have you considered making the helmet a Spartan helmet with a Ironman face plate ?
You could have an artifical flame in the arch reactor ,like a fernace in his chest.

I really like the idea of an ancient artifact suit in the style of a museum piece! I'm impressed by your work so far! :):thumbsup

And herein lies the problem, finding a style and sticking to it. I also like:

But Samurai/Sparta/Steam Punk is a mess of ideas.

Simple solution: build a replica of Tom Cruise's (Iron Man inspired?) armour in the Last Samurai as well - keep this build on a Victorian Jules Verne type theme.
