Amazon to produce live action Lady Jaye series

I just saw that Amazon is going to be producing a live action GI JOE movie centered around Lady Jaye. I don't know why they're doing a Lady Jaye series as opposed to one focused on GI JOE as a whole, but who knows. It might be interesting, but I kind of have my doubts about how well it would do since, as far as I know, Lady Jaye wasn't such a popular character that fans would want to see a series focused solely around her. I think that the only JOE that fans would want to see a stand alone series or movie focusing on would be Snake Eye, not Lady Jaye, Scarlet, Duke, or just any of the other JOEs. But what do I know.

It could be interesting. I hope they do have Adrianne Palicki because I thought she did a good job in the movie. She did pretty good with action stuff on Agents of Shield also.

I hope they do a very different approach to GI JOE than in the previous movies. Lady Jaye could be fun. Whenever I think of her I always think of an episode of ARAH where she goes to Scotland to get an inheritance and uncovers a weird cult run by Destro/Destro's Family...

The first two movies were indeed not very good. Lady Jaye was technically one of the main characters in the 80's cartoon series but you're right a lot of people won't know or really care who she is. So it's an odd move for amazon.

I see no point in a Lady Jaye series without GI JOE. I don't get why "Hollywood" or whatever can't just get the source material and use it properly.

Besides G.I.Joe is an ensemble piece. Doing a solo show or movie doesn't garner much interest because a large part of the appeal of the cartoon and toys was the sheer variety of characters to choose from.

Aren't they also doing something with Snake Eyes? Makes more sense to attach Scarlett to that, given their romantic entanglements in the comics.

I think they're entertaining, but they never should have tried to go in a realistic direction. I want all the vehicles we had as a kid. They got close with the Night Raven in the first movie, the GI JOE VTOL transport (though it lacked detail), the Moccasin boat, and that Cobra helicopter, but otherwise they were lame. If I never see one of those Howe & Howe Ripsaw "tanks" in another movie I will be happy. They need to make the vehicles and characters as goofy as the toys, but have the characters treat it real and it will be believable. I really want to see a Cobra dude Big Boa with boxing gloves fighting someone in a movie! Just have him boxing dudes with machine guns for no reason.

And as you said Sluis Van Shipyards seeing it like the cartoon, toys and comics, just with the characters taking it all seriously. All the crazy designs, good and bad. Just go full bore nuts with the look of it all but have the story be played serious. With a concept so over the top there's no need to make the look of the movie more grounded. It can look as insane as you want it, as long as the characters are believable. There is a general rule in speculative fiction which is that the more outlandish the concepts introduced in your stories, the more grounded the characters have to be in order for your audience to be willing to buy into the story.

I remember some actor saying this, but forgot the actor and the show, it was a scifi show though, where he was telling the director he didn't know how to play it to make it believable. The director said something like "You don't have to believe it, your character does". That's exactly how to do GI JOE without making it realistic.
