All things Tron Legacy

As crazy as it sounds, I've toyed around with doing a "fan film trailer" for a Tron fan film, basically shooting some footage for a mock trailer. But I've decided against it, as I fear it may look rather cheesy (especially since I've considered shooting it old-school with physical models on green screen, and borrowing some of the tricks used in the first Tron). Had an idea for a story for the trailer (basically taking some of the story elements from the "Tron 2.0" video game and combining it with the Legacy timeframe), but like I said, I've decided against it.

Thank god it's not anime style for once in this last damn decade!

I'll have to tell Boxleitner it looks awesome when I go get his autograph tomorrow at the Comicon in Seattle! WOO WOO!!!! (y)thumbsup

"Looking for the next TRON"

Sorry Tron, but there can be only one. And it sure as heck isn't going to be Elijah Wood!

Not true. Technically, there was another Tron in the Tron 2.0 game. That program was the uncompiled code called "Tron Legacy."

My point: Just because there is one program called "Tron" doesn't mean there can't be another one.

Do you guys think it'd be appropriate to get one of my Legacy Identity Discs signed by Bruce Boxleitner?

I don't know if the Rinzler one would be good or just the Blue one.

Easter Eggs from Tron Legacy:

Prodution Pictures, Still Frames and Promotion Pics from TRON in the News reel scenes:

Notice the red framed TV - this was the scene filmed and where a behind-the-scenes photo appeared on AICN:

Encom small logo you could blink and miss:

89 forever on the container:

The Coleco Quarterback Handheld Game, that Fynn played in TRON, while talking to Alan and Lora:

The MPC as a alu cool sink (sp?) on right corner the tray (hard to spot):

They even remembered the red neon Recognizer and parking meter on the right corner in TRON:

Steven Lisberger, director of TRON as Shaddix, the bartender Of EOLC:

There's even Tetris on the Unix terminal:

On a better screen off the trailer or flickr pic from the opening of Flynn's arcade with the props of Legacy you can see a game flowchart of TRON arcade coin game (right upper corner):

And an anachronism, I found after capping: Xorg X-Windows Manager was shown the process top list, but Xorg wasn't founded until 2003, IIRC, it should have been XFree86, that existed since 1984:

The Dumont Shipping Container has been known for a while, as far back as the Arcade Aid v1.0. Basically, in the film's storyline, Dumont wasn't the name of the original company, but was originally Telninger's when it was founded in 1963. After Encom entered the partnership with the company in 1990, it was renamed Dumont Shipping. The info can be found here.

And the "'89 Encom" logo on the door is something I noticed the first time I saw the film (during the free preview).

But nice catch on those Tron promo stills and the flow-chart of the original Tron arcade game.

I'm just saying that this sounds more like a "Rodimus Prime" thing going on with the studios wanting a younger, more cooler hero than the cool adult warrior from the first film.

And I must be honest. Tron: Legacy was ok, but it's not something I want to continue to dedicate so much material into, especially if all it's going to do is lead up to it. And we've had plenty of prequel stories for Legacy already. First was the comics, than there was the video game, and now this series. Since Tron Legacy is all that will follow, nothing is really grabbing my interest.

Did someone get an early bootleg copy of the movie? ;)

Ehhh… what me?!

I just stumbled upon, man…

Someone posted this over at the Tron-Sector forums: YouTube - Tron Legacy - Visualizing Tron

Also, after rewatching the arcade scene where Sam finds the hidden door behind the Tron arcade machine, have come to discovered that Flynn must have had the door custom made to fit against the actual machine (as the back of the machine isn't shaped to be put up against a wall like most machine from that era was).

well, at least I preorder my limited Tron Legacy Steelbook 3D/2D Blu-Ray and digital copy on amazon.de and I want to see Legacy a second time in 3D, I'll have to find time and frankly I can't wait for my Legacy fix. And I wanted to help out the RPF with caps for replicas. Does that redeem me like Tron dropping into the Sea of Simulation?

EDIT:
I also found some terrific links about the VFX, their artists and the Flickr Page of them:
