Aliens: Colonial Marines

Finished the game tonight. Action beefed up quite a lot in the later part of the game. A satisfying enough experience. Felt a little short, but fulfilling enough. Definitely left room for another game if they wished, but see what happens, eh?

Flares? Everything that's misleading from this demo involving the character interactions, texture detail, lighting, cutscenes, game play, texture detail, enemy AI, ect, are on the same level as the reduced flare detail from AVP? Aliens: Colonial Marines wishes it only had problems with flares. Is flares even a mechanic in the game?

I was pointing out that this isnt the first Aliens related game that had a change in game play and look from the demo to the finished game. Some of you people need to relax.

Some of you people need to relax.

I AM RELAXED!!

The first AVP I still regard as a pretty good game and the lack of better flares was never an issue. Things change in games, I agree. But when they have their game up on display advertising it as "actual game play footage" with the end product lacking in so much of what was shown, they screwed up.

Well, you know, it's THEIR game, so they can make it however they want and we have to respect the wishes of the artist. Besides, I'm sure they always intended for it to be pared back in terms of features and aspects of gameplay. So, I'm sorry you fell in love with a flawed version, but this is the version they always meant to create.

;)

I still consider it false advertising that they put out a video claiming it's actual game footage when it wasn't and we need to stop giving these companies free reign to rip us off.

If there are gameplay aspects in the demo that were never intended to be in the final game then they shouldn't have been in the demo.

Hey, they have my respect in that regard. They're just going to have to respect that I have no interest in buying or playing their game because every where I look says that they royally screwed up. Normally I would actually bite the bullet since ALIENS is one of my favorite franchises and support the game, but they literally went out of your way to acknowledge Alien3, retcon so many established details, further downplay Ripley's heroics into pointless wondering and dared to call this incoherent mess 'canon'. I've seen fan fic writers who have worked together on projects more involving than this game's story.

I'm going to get the game later today on Steam, hopefully the LV-426 discount code still works. Despite the negativity posted here from other sources, folks here seem to be enjoying it and as a huge fan of the franchise, and one who thinks Alien3 is interesting and can somehow get over it's inclusion in this story, I think it will be good fun.

How they, Sega/gearbox handled this game is pretty damn pathetic :facepalm

I had to download it to watch it, that site was buffering every 3 seconds. Gearbox pulled this with Duke Nukem Forever too, the preview stuff looked nothing like the final game.

Uh no they didn't, Gearbox didn't make DNF, they only finished it...

Was some other company working on this before and it got handed off to Gearbox? They seem to be taking on the mantle of "rescuer of vaporware." Actually "rescuer" may be a bit strong...

Nope, they dropped the ball, lied about it then bought an onion and tried to pass it off as the real deal.

Nope. It's been in Gearbox's hands since the mid-2000s. They started and stopped working on it a few times over the years.

Since late -07

A lot of times stuff like this is cut for reasons like, for example, whatever was in the demo was no longer found to be fitting for the full game. Gameplay gets changed and suddenly an area in a demo gets cut because it's no longer found to be enjoyable in the context of a game.

This is why you can see locations in a game's advertising that might not make the final cut. For one reason or another, that specific part wasn't up to par with the rest of the experience. Movies do this same thing to - something that was used in a trailer may originally be intended to be in the final film, but may wind up getting cut before release.

They're not intentionally trying to pull a fast one on you.

There's a difference between a deleted scene, and throwing all your movie budget into hiring actors and locations for one scene that won't make it into the film in order to make a cool trailer.

ive been playing the hell out of this game. im on the last campaign mission, and ive put several hours in to the multiplayer game types. in my opinion, this game is nothing like what the reviews are saying. the story is good, and it doesnt seem to try and force in references. the only references ive actually seen are in the achievement / trophy names, and the "legendary" weapons. im very thankful they didnt try to force in any dialogue that was just a word or two off from an original movie line.

i cant speak for the AI on the lower difficulty settings, but its definitely challenging on Ultimate Badass difficulty. ive noticed a couple of aliens get glitched in to an envionment, but aside from that ive had no problems with it. my teammates actually do work, and god help you if you let the aliens swarm you. the enemies actually react to getting shot also. its not just a loud "ARGH" and a blood splatter. the aliens specifically are noticable with this. ive you pump a few rounds in to them, you can see them break their charge, step back and shake it off for a second before coming back at you.

i think that this is a great game for aliens fans, but not many others will want to pay the $60 price tag. for those complaining about the graphics, AI, and other problems with the engine, just rent it or wait until it hits $30 or $40. its well worth that in my opinion. most certainly worth a play thru. just dont go in to this expecting halo 5 of black ops 3 or any sort of competition with the big hitters, because while gearbox is a good and well funded company, they arent the best or the most highly funded company.

I'm not surprised. The online gaming magazines and g4 knew how bad Mass Effect 3 was too and they kept hyping it like it was the hottest thing too. All the game sites like IGN are practically owned by the game companies. You give them a bad review they'll stop letting you see the games early to review them and drive you out of business.

As far as I'm concerned, the only 2 trustable gaming news sites are RockPaperShotgun and Giantbomb. Giantbomb being created by the gentleman who was fired from Gamespot back in 2006 for giving Kayne & Lynch 2 a bad review despite the developer having point-blank paying off Gamespot to give it a good one. Him and a bunch of his colleagues created Giantbomb and they always have told it straight.

I would rather hear people who actually are playing the game that was made and hear their thoughts then what the game was sold as prior to release. We can have upset over the marketing but it's better to review the game that was actually delivered.

Whilst I have played and finished this game and did enjoy it for the most part, though not overly concerned myself, I can certainly understand the frustration people are expressing in regards to being misled via the earlier demo. Myself, I never expected those kind of graphics to come from a PS3 to begin with, however, if this was never to be the case, then why advertise it as such?
As much as people have complained about games in the past, I can almost sense something serious coming about this time around...
