I'm really surprised about all the nerd rage in the wake of this launch.
I'm playing on PC, with the video settings at max (and the dx10 mod), and it looks substantially better than the console footage I'm seeing posted. If anything, it looks better than the E3 footage.
Playing on "Ultimate Badass" difficulty, it is quite challenging, full of tension and frights, and fun. I've got around 20 hours out of the single-player campaign, and geeked out on it and had a blast...
It has plenty of flaws and places it could use some polishing up, but isn't that true of the majority of games, even some of the most successful?
I've played all the Alien franchise games, and they have all been stinkers to some degree. This one is easily my favorite yet. As far as licensed titles go, this seems on the decent side.
Expectations were just off the charts for this, I think.
I even recall remarking to myself at a couple of points during the story that the game was doing the better job of giving me the things I wished for in Prometheus.
I feel bad for Randy Pitchford and the Gearbox and TimeGate guys. Sounds like they went through some development hell that doesn't sound all that unusual for the biz. I don't think much of anything I have ever worked on has ever turned out as well as I had hoped it could, regardless of how successful it might have been, and that's just the nature of the business. It sucks to see all these butthurt people calling Pitchford a liar and such. Despite all the years in development (or on the shelf), it essentially got rushed out. Looks like the console versions had performance issues and making the visuals suffer was the only quick fix.
Looks and plays geat on my PC rig, though, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I'm off to play some more multiplayer.
