Aliens: Colonial Marines

Sounds like these clowns at timegate shouldn't be in business if this is how they handle a contract and gearbox should have been paying more attention. I bet sega wants nothing to do with them now and to be honest Sega was pretty generous with the extensions.

My one head scratcher in regards to this game is whose idea was it to put an under slung shotgun on a shot gun :confused :lol

Probably the same guy who thought it was okay to release the game in this condition. Then again when Sega is about to sue you there isn't much choice but this is a blemish on Gearbox.

i think that this is a great game for aliens fans, but not many others will want to pay the $60 price tag. for those complaining about the graphics, AI, and other problems with the engine, just rent it or wait until it hits $30 or $40. its well worth that in my opinion. most certainly worth a play thru. just dont go in to this expecting halo 5 of black ops 3 or any sort of competition with the big hitters, because while gearbox is a good and well funded company, they arent the best or the most highly funded company.

If the post release reviews are to be believed that should be relativly soon.

Having looked at the video posted a while back showing the two in comparison, I can see why a fair load of people are pissed...That IS stupid...The game isn't anywhere close to that stunning...I came to it having seen the recent trailers only, and it's not far off those...The game has catches, and odd as hell moments, and it's not ever going to be the game I go to with friends to impress them....But it works ok, and the spirit is right...

For me that is...I wasn't expecting anything more....What they've given us all is disappointing when you look at the video...There's nothing else to be said, 6 years...And they screw it up that bad? The game's decent...I'd put it about 5/10...Not bad, not good...Somewhere in the middle...But what they said was coming was so far off the final project, it makes you wonder what the hell happened in the time since the video was put up and the release...

It's a "Meh" game...Not buzzing to play it, fairly happy I have it though, and happier I didn't pay more than 50 dollars for it...I certainly wouldn't pay more than that....

I'd said to a mate before I bought Aliens that my whole idea of what a game needed to deliver was raised after playing Arkham City....This game would have been great back on the Playstation 1.....But for the three? It's a little shady to expect anything more than anger at delivering that after a 6 year wait....

I'm happy with the game, but I wouldn't buy it again, and fully agree that those who are pissed, are rightfully angry...Entirely right..

Beat the campaign tonight with my buddy tonight and the game honestly does get better as you make your way through the levels. However that still doesn't change the fact that this game is still a failure. The writing was terrible. I mean the story was something you'd expect from s high school fan fic. If I had a dollar for every time they mentioned "we don't leave a marine behind" I'd probably have enough to pay for this game. The dialogue was just abysmal.

The enemies literally felt like cannon fodder. All the Wayland Yutank troops were identical so it just felt like duck hunt.

I think one of the biggest **** offs was the final battle. They clearly hype it up towards the end of the game and it's over before it begins and the characters literally act like they're pondering what's for dinner tonight during a big emotional moment.

I kinda like that they brought back hicks but the back story behind it is so unbelievably stupid. Ok so mercs boarded the Sulaco and you were revived because you were senior marine. Now when they inquire as to who's body was in his cryo tube, all he can say is don't worry about it? Lazy writing for sure. Same with the ending. We got supposed crucial information!! High fives all around!!

The game could of honestly been amazing if they had actually put some effort into the writing and visuals. Instead this feels like a crappy sequel to AVP 2.

On a separate note, my buddy helped me figure out the weapons. If you hold down Y and move your right thumbstick, you can assign new primary weapons to your loadout. You can even switch between thrown 40MM grenades, firebombs, and claymores. Same with your 4 or 5 different pistols.

I figure I'll plus through to get most if not all the achievements and then I will never touch the game again........ever.

I'm really surprised about all the nerd rage in the wake of this launch.

I'm playing on PC, with the video settings at max (and the dx10 mod), and it looks substantially better than the console footage I'm seeing posted. If anything, it looks better than the E3 footage.

Playing on "Ultimate Badass" difficulty, it is quite challenging, full of tension and frights, and fun. I've got around 20 hours out of the single-player campaign, and geeked out on it and had a blast...

It has plenty of flaws and places it could use some polishing up, but isn't that true of the majority of games, even some of the most successful?

I've played all the Alien franchise games, and they have all been stinkers to some degree. This one is easily my favorite yet. As far as licensed titles go, this seems on the decent side.

Expectations were just off the charts for this, I think.

I even recall remarking to myself at a couple of points during the story that the game was doing the better job of giving me the things I wished for in Prometheus.

I feel bad for Randy Pitchford and the Gearbox and TimeGate guys. Sounds like they went through some development hell that doesn't sound all that unusual for the biz. I don't think much of anything I have ever worked on has ever turned out as well as I had hoped it could, regardless of how successful it might have been, and that's just the nature of the business. It sucks to see all these butthurt people calling Pitchford a liar and such. Despite all the years in development (or on the shelf), it essentially got rushed out. Looks like the console versions had performance issues and making the visuals suffer was the only quick fix.

Looks and plays geat on my PC rig, though, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I'm off to play some more multiplayer.

Does the PC version look close to the footage thrown up earlier with the two in comparison side by side? I think it was the October 2012 demo against the game?

If it looks like that on PC, then yeah, it's just the consoles that lose a load of effects...

I don't believe in complaining about most anything I bought....Cause, well...I bought it...If I was smart, and took the time to work out what I actually wanted, then I shouldn't have room to complain..It's on me...

This game isn't a loss.....Just...Not what they claimed it might have been....I missed all that so am not overly bothered by it all...Games reasonably fun..

This was the comparison...Watching this makes me see what people are complaining about for sure...But..I don't think the games as crap as some of the others I own..

It looks at least as good, in my opinion. At least, with all the video settings at max, and the DirectX 10 mod helping out. Here's some screens I took (not displaying original resolution of 1920x1200).

Judge for yourself...

Multiplayer was fun, BTW. I did better with the Marines, but had more fun with the xenos.

I only played a few rounds online but unless you have a good team of xeno's, prepare to have your ads handed to you by the marines. Literally like very match ended with almost a 3:1 final score in favor of the marines.

I've been watching a lot of play throughs and a lot of level-by-level analysis, and I've got to say the only thing I would buy is the game's soundtrack. I'm actually amazed at how well this game sounds. Kevin Riepl's work is really awesome, and I love how there are moments of Goldsmith and Horner in the same tracks.

But that's about it. I'll buy the soundtrack, but that's it.

I just watch a bit of a walk through. So, we now know when Hicks made his emergency broadcast. It was apparently either when he was still inside the Dropship during the Ripley/Queen fight or shortly after the fight and the Queen was spaced. :)

OK playing right now and I think the graphics look really good. Keep in mind I am playing on a 1 year old iMac not set up as a gaming desktop and running Windows 7 in my partition drive but it's smooth and vibrant. I live sneaking around the Sulaco. Getting used to the controls, playing the Soldier difficulty. Aliens have made me jump a few times. They aren't the sharpest tools in the shed but I have been killed twice. So far I am having fun!

Oh, and make sure you close the doors behind you.

The PC version looks rather good actually...I can see that being a fair way closer to the video shots, for sure....

The console versions are miles off then...Just us and our luck I guess...Ah well....

Thanks for the screens! Decent! I agree!

I just finished the story mode and the ending was something of a waste. But, when the queen pops up, for a brief second I sat there looking at her going "Man, they did a good job on that model, scary as hell." Just a shame the end "battle" was so useless.

I do love all the "We don't leave marines behind!" spoken as you are leaving wounded marines behind you though.

The soundtrack is incredible and all the weapons sound amazing as well. I do wish they would of given Bishop a little more to do.

I was also hoping for a level where you got to fly a dropship or drive an APC.

Watching the cutscenes I also was thinking that they should do a animated movie around this kind of like they did with the deadspace games.

I have played a couple of multiplayer death matches and I have realized that I just suck at DM. Doesn't matter if I'm a bug or a marine, I'm dying and a lot. I haven't tried out Co-Op yet though.

Coming from an incredibly bias Aliens fanatic I would give this game a 7/10. I have played way worse games in my day.

What I will concede that others have said so far is the xeno AI is limited and the Alien blood should hurt more.

But when you fight other Marines, they are very clever.

I wouldn't exactly call the Weyland Yutani marines clever unless you consider running out of cover only to stand in the middle of an open area and shoot at you sound tactics.

I had a chance to play some more online tonight. Death Match is what it is. Extermination is neat in that its kind of like King of the hill. Certain spots have egg canisters and the marines have to get to them and capture them and thereby arm explosives to destroy said eggs. The more marines inside the capture area, the faster it goes. Xeno's get points for killing marines (I'm not sure if its in general or specifically in the capture area)

Survivor is fun as well although very difficult. Marines basically make a last stand and as the match begins they can weld doors shut, close blast shields, and set up a sentry gun. Then it's the Xeno's job to get inside and kill all the marines. The Xeno's are able to resplendent and as the time ticks down, the timer for them to respawn gets shorter. The marines only have one life. They can be knocked down into a "last stand" and be revived by teammates but once they're killed, they're done . I got killed several times by a spitter that kamikazeed and instantly killed me. Game ends once the timer runs out or all 4 marines are dead. If you can get a cohesive team, you can definitely kick the Xeno teams ass.
