Aliens: Colonial Marines

That trailer looks fairly good. I do wish they would do something more with the acid splashes from a dead alien. I've always wanted to see floor/wall damage etc. but I know it would also screw up the game play as to be realistic, after a huge battle the whole room should basically collapse in on itself from lack of support and a floor.:lol I just remember AvP back on the Atari Jaguar and how you have to be mindful of where you killed the aliens as the acid stayed in a puddle and you couldn't jump so it was real easy to box yourself in.

I'm happy we have a release date but feb 2013 is still a long ways off. Boo.

So is it a good or a bad sign that the game has been pushed back?

Probably neither. Nothing to be concerned about with such a short delay. Such things can be down to simple things like marketing department availability at any given time just as well as game development issues. It's probably just a rearranging of schedules.

If they had pushed it back another year however.. then I'd be worried!

Be specific Comander. There are dozens upon dozens of AVP games. Some I hold dear to my heart (Aliens Vs. Predator 2).

I'm assuming he's referring to the most recent one, that came out two or so years ago. That one sucked, BAD.

But yeah, the AvP and AvP2 games that released on PC back in the late 90s/early 2000s were awesome.

The most recent AvP game on the Xbox was so bad that I never even finished it and I usually play everything multiple times through. I finished the Marine part, got a few stages in on the predator and then traded it in.

I still think the original AvP on the PC was the best of the lot. I know many people swear by AvP2 but I thought that game had alot of cheapness to it. Walk backwards and you could see the bugs materialize behind you in certain spots. Bah.

Yeah, I do remember that when it initially released, it was plagued with numerous bugs and glitches. After a few patches, most of that was cleared up. I'd have a hard time picking a favorite between the two, I loved them both.

But yeah, as for the latest one, thankfully I only rented it. I played about 20 minutes of the Marine campaign, 20 minutes of the Predator campaign, and 5 minutes of the Alien campaign. After that I returned it, and never touched it again. I had more fun with the multiplayer demo. What a pile of crap.

I played the X-box 360 one through to completion. With all characters
It was just really uninspired. The only thing to look forward to was getting stealth kills.
There were some cool ideas in there, hopefully we get that sense of dread I saw in the trailers. The lighting seemed good, I wish they would introduce some more interesting xenomorphs into the mix. Maybe get a dog alien, those swimming ones in....Alien Resurection:confused

I disagree. Huggers, drones, one queen... That's all you need for a decent game. There hasn't been a "New" type of alien in one of these games yet that I thought was needed. Just my opinion.

AVP1 I enjoyed...mostly. But the problem I had was with how freakin' weak the Predator was.

AVP2 I didn't play.

The most recent AVP game I tried getting into and while it was sort of atmospheric...eh. I just wasn't all that excited about it.

I do agree that the extra alien types get kind of tedious, although I can sort of see a "Royal Guard" type in Aliens (don't they seem to have bigger crowns or something?). But yeah, keep it simple. And it'd be nice if for ONCE you get to play in a squad that isn't instantly all killed off.

Hahah, true. Thankfully, I've read that the dev team for Colonial Marines is going out of their way to really give your squad mates character. Every member will look different, right down to custom decals and such on their armor/weapons. If they put that much work into the squad, I doubt they'd instantly kill them all off. At least I hope not.

I agree. Most Alien-based games miss the whole psycho-sexual horror aspect of the franchise. Unfortunately, it will almost certainly never happen. Getting such a project green-lit would be about as easy as convincing someone to let Michael Bay direct a hundred-million-dollar movie that is devoid of guns and explosions!

Anyone remember the game ALIENS:Online? It was online only. You could play as a marine or alien in multi player against each other. The graphics were horrid but I always thought the team aspect was well done. You went in as a fireteam of 4 marines and tried to work together to wipe out the map of aliens and the Queen that was setting up a nest somewhere. What was different about it though was that you had 3 little HUD screens like the ones Gorman used in the APC in the movie so you could see what your teammates were seeing and where they were etc. I was surprised that feature never made it into another Aliens game I have played since.

Well, at least for single player, that's probably because every game has always devolved into "You against the world." No need for HUDs therefore.

Personally, I always thought it'd be awesome to make a class-based Colonial Marines vs. Aliens game, although nowadays I think it'd make more sense to do a class-based co-op game a la Left 4 Dead. Hell, you could do a mod for that easily enough, I expect. Just make the zombies into Aliens, and you've got an AMAZING game in the making.

That's kind of what Aliens: Online was. If you were a marine you could be a medic, or smartgunner, or grunt with the pulse rifle etc. You were given a set group of weapons per class and thats what you were stuck using. You wanted a flamethrower? You had to be a medic etc. As far as the Alien side went you could play as a hugger, a drone or one person as the queen.
