Alien: Covenant (Prometheus Sequel)

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

Um...where are you guys seeing this bit about a change in writers?
I've read nothing official to that tune.

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

"Prometheus co-scribe Damon Lindelof might not be available..."

So it's an availability issue.
How much you want to bet he'll make himself available?

I thought he did an incredible job.

Re: PROMETHEUS sequel set for 2014/15

I'd like it if James Cameron penned the next story and Ridley directed it. It'll never happen though.

That would be a bad idea. Cameron would just make it another re-telling of Vietnam again, like how he did it with Aliens and Avatar.

Besides, does anyone know what Cameron thought of Prometheus? I mean, has anyone seen an interview or read an interview with him where he discusses the film? (The closest to him acknowledging the other films in the series was the audio commentary for Aliens, where he talks a bit about Scott's film and how it helped in influencing his movie, and his opinion about Alien 3 and why fans felt cheated by the death of Hicks and Newt. I don't think I've heard of him talking about Alien Resurrection or Prometheus anywhere).

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

At some point Cameron talked about collaborating with Ridley on an ALIEN 5, but when the studio wanted to do AVP instead they bailed on it. So says Cameron apparently.

The James Cameron/Ridley Scott Alien 5 film that never was.

I've heard that Cameron wanted to collaborate with Scott, but has anyone heard Cameron's opinion on Prometheus? I mean, his opinion on Prometheus could give us an idea on if he still wants to work with Scott or not, let alone if he finds the idea of a non-Alien film in the Alien universe idea acceptable.

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

Apparently there was some sort of April Fools thing about Cameron directing Prometheus 2, but other than that I can't find anything definitive that Cameron said about the film.

Then again Cameron has said that he is working on NO other films other than the upcoming Avatar sequels, so I doubt he would have or want to have any involvement in the Prometheus franchise. But that's just my guess.

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

It's just as well he goes off making his blue cat movies and lets Ridley handle the real aliens.

Shame Cameron can't just go back to making chrome skeleton movies instead. But I guess he's into furries right now, I suppose. I agree, let Ridley Scott handle the aliens.

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

The title makes me think of the biblical reference of Adam and Eve and the expulsion from Paradise.

Could be interesting and change a lot of what some have inferred regarding the first movie.

I remember hearing that they intended to use that allusion.

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

If Cameron came back for any additional films in the Alien universe, he might as well just do a "durquel" (what I call a story that takes place during another story, or in between two pre-existing stories that fills in the gap between the other two) about the colonists on LV-426. Yes, we know what happens to them, but I will admit, I'd like to see everything from the moment that Newt's father is brought back to the colony all the way up to the "last stand." And since Cameron always has attention to detail, he would probably be the best person to tell that story, even more so since it was his creation anyway (and they could reuse the cut footage of the Hadley's Hope colony that was taken out of the theatrical release, the one that was reinserted into the Special Edition, and the "first appearance" of Newt in the theatrical cut as bookends to the story. I should point out that the story doesn't have to follow Newt, but Cameron could use the Avatar film tech to have a couple of appearances of Newt in the background or something). Of course, that's just me.

Honestly, I think they should just do an AVP 3 and have it actually set within the same timeline as Aliens.

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

I think we will see more and more of your durquel style film production in the future as even Hollywood is discovering a limit to their rehashing, im thinking the new Mad Max will follow this line.
Theres nothing in the Hadleys Hope story that warrants further exploration to me, they had no weapons or training in such matters and were basically smashed, game over pal, game over.

Burke said that they "lost contact" with the colony. In the cut scenes, we find out a message transmission from the colony to Earth takes at least two weeks. So, it kinda makes you wonder how long they held out, what things happened within that timeframe and what other methods we didn't see on screen that they attempted to use to keep the aliens out.

Does the title of this deleted scene from the upcoming blue ray ring a bell :)

Prometheus’ list of deleted scenes reveals an ending we never saw

The Blu-ray release of Ridley Scott's Prometheus is right around the corner — and while we can't wait to see the lovely scenes from Scott in glorious Blu-ray, we'd also like a few more answers. Thankfully a list of deleted scenes coming with the disc reveals there's a ton of extra material, that might offer up a bit of closure.

Bleeding Cool has a list of deleted scenes — get a load of the last three titles.

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

I have been holding back judgment on "Prometheus" (hell, I've even been holding back on trying to figure it out) until after I see an extended cut. It was pretty clear in the theatrical cut that big chunks of stuff were missing.

What kind of movie could you make about the shark in "Jaws", other than a straightforward horror flick where it eats a bunch of unsuspecting swimmers before being killed by a member of the Brody family?

People will be okay with the shark making a small cameo in a movie that is basically about something else. Or they will be satisfied with a full-blown Jaws movie. But you can't make a movie centered on that killer shark without it being roughly cut from the Jaws formula; the audience will have their expectations too set on it.

Same with the "Alien" monsters. Whatever role they play in the new Prometheus movies will probably remain small if they want to keep away from doing a straightforward Alien#5. I don't see any movie that is centered on the Alien creatures but not a traditional "Alien" movie working very well. The fanboys might like it but not most of the mainstream.

Scientist 1: We believe that sharks created humanity.
Some guy: What? Really? What proof do you have.
Scientist 1: I don't need proof. I choose to believe it... Plus they have eyes. We have eyes!

Shark DNA / Human DNA = 100% MATCH!

Scientist 2: My god, they're us!

*later when both scientists are next to a sleeping Shark*

Scientist 2: My god, it's one of the original creator sharks! Ask it if it can give us immortality!
*wakes up shark*
Scientist 1: I will now speak to it in it's native language. Blurp, blurp, blurp, blurp, blurp, blurp.
Shark: You humans are a failure! I will eat you all! *Chomp*, Om, nom, nom, nom.
Scientist 2: My god, it's headed for the beach! We must stop it!
*Shoots a harpoon at the shark*
Shark: Ow! I have been shot and can no longer speak! But I will still eat everyone!
Scientist 2: What horrors have we unleashed? It is as if God had created the devil, and gave him JAWS!

Self Indulging? Yeah, but I just couldn't stop laughing at the thought of a prequel to Jaws that wanted to go all philosophical on how Sharks are the creators of humanity.
