Accurized Backpk Update Feb10

Here's some new pics guys. This thing has been one of the longest time devouring projects I've ever done. If I didn't have to do my "9-5" thing everyday and was free from the rest of life's little intrusions, I'd be done by now! It's funny, just the other night I spent 1 1/2 hours, just cutting and mounting the 4 bio hose outlets into the backpack. The Chavant medium definitely requires a soft touch, which means I can't work as fast as I'd like to. But, it definitely is a superior clay than the Monster Makers oil I was using. The gun platform is finished, and now it's on to the main body, then the tool tray carrier. Because this will be a functional backpack, there's a good deal more engineering going into it.....and more friggin' time!

Speaking of engineering, my company just bought an FDM machine (Fused Deposition Modeling). In layman's terms, it's a 3D printer. That's right, just send an item built in any number of 3D software packages out there (like the one I use - FormZ) to the machine, and it will recreate it micro thin layer upon layer as a 3D piece! It's the balls! So, I gave it a try doing my new cannon arm (which you can see the side by side photo of -last pic). The only drawback is that it needs to be sanded and then sealed with a clear outer shell dipped in or brushed on. THIS is the future, just one more area where computers will put sculptors and other artists out of work.

Hope you guys like the new stuff, the ship is still on course, and will finally come in sometime next month! Thanks for hanging in there guys.

carl, that is just dead on accurate bro.. it's a pred suit builders dream

on a side note....

i've been asked to evaluate those 3D printers for work since i'm getting more into the industrial design aspects of my company. would you recomend that printer? I use lightwave 9and maya 6...but i have access to formZ so i know the file conversions would be no problem to import.

Thanks again guys, I'm still pluggin' away. Me and my damn accurized perfection!
Kit, what I know of FDM machines is this, my co. interviewed several factory reps and settled on Z Corp's machine. It does everything you want for $40,000...and that's cheap!

the more i'm looking at the pack the more i'm thinking about all the components that could be added to it to make it a self contained suit component.

my thoughts....

-full animatronic servo system for the cannon

-Suit cooling unit

-sound system and possibly a lighting system for a suit.

an another question carl will it have attachments or brackets to make it easy to attach to a suit??...

wow man you got some serious details going on there was looking at the wall in the back Ive never seen half of those photos you have up.
great job.

The backpack will be offered in two different versions, for two different prices---(yet to be determined)---one with the medkit (link), one without. Externally there will be no difference between the two, but the medkit will take up a majority of the interior, yet there is still room left over for batteries, cables, whatever.

Funny you mention a sound system, one of those featuring an amplified speaker is in the works. Perhaps you've seen the animatronic system Honus has developed for my cannon (link) which is engineered with my backpack in mind. These 2 systems will be synched to work together, as well as a third system, the bio helmet lasers. Depending on affordability, the backpack can be had with no systems, one, two, or all three. Please hold all questions on this until we get further along.

This whole thing is a pretty ambitious undertaking, my hat's off to Honus for his technical help with this, as well as ScottAS' assistance both for the torso armor and his experience. It's a LONG time in coming, but the stars finally came into alignment this fall. I hate to say it, but the thing that's holding up this project more than anything else is ME!

Personal issues, work, and my infamous meticulousness on this stuff hasn't helped. I have redoubled my efforts, and hope to hell I have the thing fully finished in January. It's simple---no finished backpack means no animatronics, no sound system, nothing. The ref. photos in the pictures are shots that have been around the Lair for a long time. Most are of Wang's original sculpt, as well as some screen caps from the film and a couple I whipped up on the computer.

Lastly, the mounting method I have in mind will be easy to attach and detach, yet secure. The lastest pix I posted don't look like much more has been done, but I'm getting there. Again, thanks for your patience, it will indeed be worth the wait. Thanks for the kudos, guys, more to come.....
