Another sunny afternoon in Yavin's Rebel Base. This time A-Wings were been tested and repaired. These small ships are really loved around here. A new young recruit said...."I bet I could take down a whole Star Destroyer with one of these!" Could it be done? Well here are the pics!

Hope you like it! I had a lot of fun with this little kit.

:D

I'm not sure if there is anything "wrong" with it. I think you did an excellent job with the photography and painting.

Purely from a constructive criticism point of view based on my own biased opinion... fell free to disagree or tell me I am full of it :lol, but if this was my A-Wing, I would not have done the panel lines so dark.

I think you did a fantastic job weathering it overall, but the dark panel lines kind of take me out of it as far as scale goes and detracts from the illusion of it being a scaled down real world object

Hey thanks for looking! Ive heard all about the panels before and I respect the opinion. The thing is, at least to me that the original prop used in the movies had such a bad paintwork on it that almost any other paint job done on it would have looked better. That same opinion about the sense of scale was given to me about my AT-ATs. I said to that person that with the right angle they could be made to look huge. Of course he didnt believed it but then I posted these:

Those are 1/144 scale but if I would have told you 1/48, a lot would have never know the difference.

On a final note the images I posted had a big high contrast treatment in PP.

Less contrasty image:

Those AT-ATs look fantastic. To me the panel lines don't seem to stand out as much there and everything looks perfect. I guess it may have to do with a darker base coat

And you are right. Many of the original props when seen up close have very disappointing paint jobs

I came across your B-Wing thread and that was quite good as well

I personally prefer the "less contrasty" look in the image above with the A-Wing. It am guessing it to be a much more accurate representation of what it looks like in person as well

It's hard sometimes to convey the right message through just type so hopefully none of this is taken as an attack/insult in any way. I've gone through lots of art school class critiques and I know it can sometimes tough to hear criticism about such subjective things, but I always found it useful to hear others opinions.

In a way I found them sometimes to be more useful than the ones that are just "looks great"
.

No attack or insult whatsoever man, dont worry. Is nice to share opinions in a respectful way Perhaps I cranked the contrast a bit more than needed. I will have another go later in other lighting conditions and different PP to see how it looks. :D
