If you are referring to the blue watch crown cabochon, or red Swarovski jewel that was placed between the dials on the Hero Phaser one’s, these detail pieces were omitted in the stunt and midgrade phasers.
I’m finally getting back to working on a third version of the Midgrade Phaser II; this one is being built with the most accurate shells I’ve ever run across—just gorgeous craftsmanship.
I purchased these from a fellow RPF’er Robn1 (also the maker of the shells) quite a while ago, but have only gotten as far as the modifying the Phaser II l handle from Hero to Midgrade version, trimming, puttying, sanding, and assembly of the main PI / PII parts.
I’m shooting to wrap this one up, over the course of this weekend.
I have a question that may reveal some ignorance on my part. The back "fins" on the midgrades as well as on the black and white are recessed into the body. How exactly is that done cause I really need to build myself a black and white phaser.

Originally, the rear fins that you see on both the midgrades and the black and white heroes were part of the phaser details, right out of the molds, just as you see here.
This detail was then cut out of the rear of the hero phasers, and replaced with metal fins, when the black and white heroes were refurbished by Wah Chang.

Classic Trek props show up every once in a while in the junkyard; however, the days of parties doing full Trek kit runs are much more rare of an occurrence than say, 10 years ago.
Ugh. Thanks Alley. So basically if I wanted to convert say an Art Asylum phaser into a black & white, I'd have to completely remove the hero fins and scratch build that look...

The brushed-on base paint for the Phaser One and handle of the Phaser II is completed. I’ve primed the main body of the Phaser II and am now fitting the metal detail pieces. Next, I’ll be brushing on the main body paint of the Phaser II followed by detail painting.
The brushed-on look is Intentional, and follows the look of the Midgrades in seasons Two and Three.
