A potential psudeo Highlander project with an ethics question...

Mods, please feel free to move this if I don't have this in the correct place.

I was looking at my swords today and I was looking at my Marto Duncan MacLeod katana and wakizashi and thought it would be nice to have a "matching" wakizashi for my United Connor MacLeod Katana.

I have a Marto Connor Tsuba lying around (yes, I know it is thinner than the United), and this would be a wall hanger so I am not looking for a high-end blade. However here is the ethical question.

Is it unacceptable to have someone (as I have no skills) recast the United handle in order to cut it down to wakizashi size. I basically hope to hollow it out and use it as a sleeve over the tsuka of the wakizashi.

Thanks for the help.

do it for yourself and dont sell any?

i dont see anyone having a problem with that.....

I think its IrishAmericanKid here on the boards that's been making highlander katanas lately. Might do a search and track if that was him, who knows... might get lucky on just a handle deal from someone with molds already.

I see no ethical or legal issues with making yourself a wak. Go for it and be sure to post pics!

Just don't make it a career. No worries!

lol irishamericankid!
you can always buy a new united sword and cut it down, pull out the blade and pin and put in the new blade... but taking a united and casting it for one handle is a bunch to do... how differant is the marto to the united anyway

I agree.

A UC Connor can be had for less than $150.You could cut it down and the resin would match perfectly.

Moulding supplies and time, creating a matching tsuba etc.. would most likely cost more than the price of cutting down a new one.

That said, I think if you cast it once for yourself and destroy the mold it would be ok(ish)
If UC offered a waki then I think it would be wrong for sure.

Here is a pic of the two swords. There is quite a bit of difference. Still deciding on the method to achieve the madness, but I have time. I am almost afraid that the "pin" area is just a faux piece and that the blade is expoxied in.

According to kit rae they are just caps. They don't go through the tang... its epoxied in place and there is a notch in the tang for the epoxy to grab on to.
