A L I E N FIVE Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN movie

I think the movie will probably be an interesting "what if" story but I'm not about to overwrite the story of Ripley in my head. The character died in Alien³ and I never had a problem with that, I think the movie has been given an unfair treatment simply because fans wanted more slam bang boom colonial marines action and less gloom. Well Alien was hardly a happy feel good family movie so what did they expect? This whole things reeks of movie studio desperation as Fox frantically tries to revive what is basically a dead franchise.

I am curious as to what Weaver has in mind storywise, from what I've read she was one of the ones who wanted to take the Alien movies in a less militaristic directions after Aliens?

You really don't need to look further then the current Alien merchandise/toys still being created to see where the interest and $ is in this franchise. It's clearly in the first two films only. The fan base is squarely there and that what they will build off of. And I appreciate A3, but they need to toss it out.

Oh without a doubt the first two movies are the most popular and they are both great movies. Neither Alien³ and Resurrection had a story or a design aesthetic that lends itself to selling toys, models, props, etc. I would love a pulse rifle but I can honestly say I do not have any desire to own Alien³ murderer/rapist action figures.

Oh, Bryancd. I could hug you right now. :)

Someone mark the time and date.

On another note, no matter where you fall on Alien 3 (I hate it with the white hot intensity of… oh, you know), in and of itself, an alternate take on the events after "Aliens" is not a bad idea.

I feel like there would have been no franchise at all if Alien 3 had been the direct follow up to the first film - it would have been two and out.

I'll admit, Fincher did okay with what he was given and was forced to do within those limitations. I feel that if he had been allowed the choices he's had with everything he's done with Se7en and other films in recent years, it would have been way better.

There were good things about D9 and I was glad I saw it, but I have not had the desire to ever see it again. It wasn't a fun time at the movies. Therefore I am skeptical. (Haven't seen Elysium)

A screenwriter facebook friend posted these Blomkamp quotes that do not bode well:

"The problem with me is I get so caught up in concepts and ideas."
"I’m lucky in the sense that I don’t feel a lot of pressures I think other directors feel."
"A normal director is like, “*****, I’ve got this pressure because this last film did well and I hope this one lives up to it.” I don’t have that. It definitely doesn’t bother me."
"Concepts are just as interesting to me as stories are. Where, to normal people, stories are more interesting."

This was part of an interview he recently did. I think it bodes very well, if you read the interview the guy recognizes his short fillings and mistakes he has made.

I just feel like ignoring that 3 and 4 were ever made is like the fans parented 4 kids... and when the younger 2 end up being a junky and a prostitute the parents (fans) just disavow them rather than owning up to their mistake for wanting more kids.

So can they just call this one Alien3 then? Or Aliens3?
Will there be a disclaimer in the beginning of the movie to tell the "fans" to please erase/ignore any recollection of the previous 2 movies?
