A different "Interest" thread.

Hey guys,

Do any of y'all visit "Studioscale" .com to view the kit scans located there?

I do and I find it to be a very valuable resource. Would anyone be interested in having the same type web resource that wasn't exclusively "Millenium Falcon" based? What I mean is, most of us have kits that we could scan and if several would contribute, we could have one heck of a resource.

I could provide us with a "fotki" site that we could store the images at and make it available to everyone in high resolution.

Anybody interested in something like this?

Rob.

I've had that site bookmarked for quite a while.
It isn't strictly MF based. There are a lot of kit scans of stuff used on X-Wings, Y-Wings, etc.
But hey! The more resources, the better. :)

True enough. It is aimed at Star Wars specifically though. The one we set up could be kit scans for everything anyone would be willing to take the time to scan. We could point out in the picture description where it's specifically used for sure and change the description as we find other places each kit was used.

We all know a great many of the same kits were used all over many of the filming miniatures around this same time. It would help many folks NOT have to buy 7 kits to get the ONE they actually need in many cases at the very least.

I have a kit scan section at www.studioscalemodelers.com for anyone that would like to share their kit scans in a centralised location. It is divided into companies & will also divide soon into specifics like size, Military, Naval etc etc. It is a work in progress & will I add anything that will make it better or easier to use when asked.

Excellent idea. Was looking for something like this when I was trying to ID parts on the Boushh helmet.

Also, there is a very good collection at Resin Illuminati as well.

We oughta have a nice collection with all these spots they're located now!

:thumbsup

i just registered for the site and it's amazing. I mean just looking at the information is incredible. I wonder how long it took some of you guys to find some of those parts.

I'm not going to lie, I've been lurking here and on the Dewback Wing for years pasting bits and pieces into a text file... for about a decade, now. They are barely project notes for various vehicles and nothing more. Much of the thanks should be shared here, too.

I joined after the forum changed hands, and I really like it there. Its wonderfully organized, and I hope to be giving a little more back in the way of scans/kit lists for projects very soon!

EDIT: Whoa, lock in this post count! I'm gonna go buy a scratch off ticket.

I would like a site that has scale mesh of different types, that some one takes the time and uses calipers to get exact measurements for the parts as well as a placement mesh (lightwave, 3D studio MAX, solidworks,) as this could be scaled up for full size in many situations to make real world models. like building one of the carrier ships at 1:1 size or close. I am sure this would help with costuming too.
