A collaborative effort: G/H USCM Locker Control Panel

Re: Custom graphics help?: USCM Locker Control Panel

I can (probably) cut vinyl lettering that small if that would help? A black piece with the character cut out of it, placed onto a white piece that gets stuck on the control pad. That stays on the best. Or i can just cut small characters out of white vinyl. oddmarjacobin@gmail.com

Thanks! Sounds incredibly complicated but I will definitely message you tomorrow. :)

Re: Custom graphics help?: USCM Locker Control Panel

If you tell me the measurements- I'd be willing to model the buttons with letters indented in a stl that could be printed- then it's a quick paint job.

Would even be willing to print up a set or two for you on my resin printer if you wanted to mold them.

PM inbound. Thank you sir. :D

Re: Custom graphics help?: USCM Locker Control Panel

Thanks so much for the prompt and friendly input on this. Messages sent with additional material on the buttons. I always prefer collaborative work as opposed to being a one man show.

Another opportunity for specific graphics input is the ID cards that have great potential to be displayed with a replica like this.

For the purpose of physical illustration, I am using a standard electronic key card. But hopefully, one of you graphic gurus have already got something that would fit in its place. If so, please don't hesitate to let me know.

I would really like to include yet another special surprise for what this particular set dressing needs. :)

Re: Custom graphics help?: USCM Locker Control Panel

What i'm saying is, i need to know the size (how big around) are your keypad buttons so i can size the decals.

My mistake. Sorry about that. Here is a quick sketch to help illustrate dimension opportunities with the buttons.

The suggested button openings of my locker panel offer 9mm of concave depressions.

This is the button design I'm working on for him currently, based on the sketch.
I can either "engrave" for paint, or leave flat (for decals) the buttons tops.
Might do both. Anyone know what the symbols are on the top and two right rows?

Re: Custom graphics help?: USCM Locker Control Panel

That looks really good. Based on my depth mic, these are roughly 2.5mm depressions.

This tolerance may vary a little between pulls but I will do my best to keep them reasonably consistent. Glad to have you on board with this. :)

Re: Custom graphics help?: USCM Locker Control Panel

All I need now is to figure out the correct font for the numbers on the buttons... Any suggestions?

Re: Custom graphics help?: USCM Locker Control Panel

My best guess on the symbols (on one of them)
Row 1 (bottom):
0
.
∅ EMPTY SET (backwards)
⋨ PRECEDES BUT NOT EQUIVALENT TO? or ≧ GREATER-THAN OVER EQUAL TO
µ MICRO SIGN
Row 2:
1
2
3
⇓ DOWNWARDS DOUBLE ARROW
∉ (rotated?) NOT AN ELEMENT OF
Row 3:
4
5
6
x
MR
Row 4:
7
8
9
≱ NEITHER GREATER-THAN NOR EQUAL TO
AC
Row 5 (top):
%
x_average
≬ BETWEEN (or it's ∮ CONTOUR INTEGRAL)
∉ NOT AN ELEMENT OF (maybe?)

Re: Custom graphics help?: USCM Locker Control Panel

always thought that slot was a 3.5 diskette drive instead of an ID card reader.

If you can find a 3.5" floppy drive front panel that looks like the one in the screen captures, I will gladly send you one of my vacuum formed versions. No charge. :)

Buttons ready to print off the resin printer...
tommin - any thoughts before I hit print in the morrow?

Looks really good. The 'AC' and the 'MR' could drop 80% vertical scale and become bold. The arrow more centered on the button. Numbers 0-9 reduced and bold type. Amazing work you have there. :)

lol. thanks. I'm sure there are tons of those laying around old computer shops though.

Will do. Should be done by end of week if not sooner- the buttons are actually quite high poly. Will have to find the bold version of the font- but not a problem. I want it to look right. The button inlays are about .5- 3/4 of a millimeter in depth- so enough depth for paint to stay easily but not too deep to break the look. (If that makes sense)

Makes perfect sense to me. Thanks. These should do the trick. :)

The following is another project update video for those that might be interested in this neat little locker widget.

Re: Custom graphics help?: USCM Locker Control Panel

Tom- do you want me to add a "stem" to their bottom as well? It could open up potential for more function potentially? Just a thought.
