8T88 from Star Wars Dark Forces 2

I'm back from the dead, had other things to deal with but will be chopping the head up tonight and tomorrow so I can finally get 8T88 printed.

An estimated 9-13 hours for each part of the main head at 60% infill, still need to add locator holes for gluing it together.

Did a test print yesterday which took around 8 hours to complete.

but after seeing how thick it was I decided to remodel the interior and try it again, the 2nd print was around 10 hours.

Sorry for the blurry picture, hot off the printer...

As you can see the walls are a lot thinner now.

After redoing the interior walls I also had to redo the back head parts that attach to it, pretty sure I have to redo the left eye dome as well.

I should have the main head printed and glued together by Sunday.

Got the main skull fully printed and started sanding last night, there was very minimal warping with the worst of it affecting the two back neck blocks but overall I'm happy with how it came out.

Next up print the internal parts.

Had to remake the chin sensors so they would be easier to print, clean, and assemble.

I am going to be redoing the eye dome on the left to be more like how I redid the head interior with indexing tabs, right now it uses pins and I'm just not happy with it plus redoing it will require less plastic so it will be worth doing in the long run.

Going to be redoing the headband and support for it giving the ability to add magnets.
I also have to redo the bowl on the back and the ring I use to attach it with, looking at pictures I noticed a detail I missed when I was first figuring it all out but it won't take long to fix since the proportions are all there.

Printed parts pictures tomorrow to show what I have printed so far.

Those internals look awesome. I need to learn how to do that with more of my work. Can't believe you worked that out for 88.

Hold off on printing Weegee for a little bit. After printing it a few times, I realize that I need to revise a few platings that are too thin and scale the arm up a tad.
Ah, low pixels. I'm currently trying to make the ceiling map from screen grabs and use it as the base to hold up Weegee.

Haha, that would be hilarious on a fridge.
Any progress...?

Spent most of the evening hollowing and adding tabs to the jaws and projector dome. Just have the center headband support left to remake, and to correct a few small things but other then that the model is pretty much finished.

You are doing supurb work ‘88! So what are are your plans? Would it be possible to attain these files..?

Got the left chin sensor printed.
Each fin is its own part for a total of 8 for the whole sensor, the right one is 11 parts.

Not sure if I want to glue the whole thing together or just add a screw, probably just add a screw on the underside through the two shells and backplate.

I also printed his right eyes

I rewatched the first video 88 is in only to realize after I printed them that I modelled his jaws wrong, so have to fix them but it will save on plastic in the long run for whoever else.

Also been rethinking the dome for the projector, I'd like so it can be removed and opened up for swapping parts in and out or for general maintenance.

Next up print the right sensor.

I didn’t get the notification on your update. Gonna have to check my Watch Thread settings.

This is great work ‘88. Any time I can find a file from this game it’s a dream come true.

Thank you!

I have plans for more Dark Forces 2 models after I finish 88's head, from there maybe do a few Dark Forces 1 models and then move onto Outcast and Academy.
There are also a few I'd like to have a crack at from Shadows Of The Empire.

NICE!
You takin requests? I’m on the lookout for the wrench from Return Home to Sulon. That’s my favorite level of the game. I’ve done the black and yellow pyramid you see around the house. Posted it on Printables. I’d love to get some of the other trinkets you see scattered around Morgan’s house.

Possibly, do you have any screenshots?

There a more screen accurate jaw, I still have to bend the left one towards the front, add bits here and there but overall it's not far off from final.

I'm not sure but I get the lore impression that 88's head design was intended for a different droid completely, his jaws and chin sensors were an after thought because they don't fit the curves and contours the rest of the head has or the design for that matter. I mean going by the ingame shots of him his jaws are bolted on so what does that say?

I envy your 3D modeling skills and your ability to visualize how the internals would have looked and fit together. Everything is coming together great!
