I took a break from working on my Jack/Joker bust and figured I'd work on something else to sort get me inspired ...so here's a look at my NEW 89 cowl...I'm still workin' the form n' trying to be as accurate as possible...I will be getting together with fellow BOTB bro Newbat very soon to get a bodycast made so I can do the complete suit...the weather has been pretty hot and muggy up here in Boston so I haven't been workin' on the sculpt much as it's a pain to work with the clay in that kind of weather...I'll start back up once the weather cools off... more to come guys!

Re: 89 Batman cowl sculpt

here's a few new update pics ..been workin' on the profile and the back mostly( hence why the ears and nose aren't that sharp)..once the profile is finished the edges will be sharp and clean. but not too sharp and clean ...then it would be a Returns cowl

Re: 89 Batman cowl sculpt

I'm working on the back at the moment, still trying to get the profile just right...and also trying to get everything clean and accurate...I'm really learning that taking breaks away from something that you are trying to copy works great..gives your eyes a chance to rest and also allows your mind to pick out flaws a lot easier...here are a few update pics

Re: 89 Batman cowl sculpt

Been a while since I've had the chance to work on this...the sculpt is pretty much finished, just waiting on my 89 cape texture stamp to finish it off...here's a few pics I took with my camera phone( my real camera is being used by my gf today)...for a phone I think they came out pretty good (y)thumbsup...

Re: 89 Batman cowl sculpt

That looks awesome! I sorta like the smooth version of this! Never seen one non textured before...

Re: 89 Batman cowl sculpt

Thanks guys!....I'll say one of the problems I had sculpting this is that the 89 cowl changes depending on which scene you are watching...some have taller ears, some have a wider sides of the mouth opening...I always like the tallers ears mixed with the larger mouth opening on the sides..most 89 cowls tend to look like Returns and I tried to get the round helmet like qualities that(in my opinion) make the 89 cowl stand out from the others that have been done before;which was hard considering how many time the 89 has been done...but I'm pretty satisfied so far ...I just can't wait to start the armor!

Re: 89 Batman cowl sculpt

You really captured it, great sculpt!
What are you casting them in? I will watch for your sale post in the JY...
I wish this had been early enough to put on my Christmas list!
:lol

WOW looks fantastic my friend, but didn´t you forget to add the
89 cape texture stamp? Could be me, but I don´t see it in the last picture, looks very clean and smooth.
Will these be for sale? if so how much?

Anyway great work:thumbsup

glad you like it guys:thumbsup

and I actually did put the tex stamp on the neck and scallop area, however some parts didn't really show through when I sealed the sculpt...it's on there, but I guess I didn't press hard enough on the stamp to make it vivid enough of an impression..if it really bothers me I'll pull a hardcopy, add a thin layer of clay and stamp it again:cool
