501st Fett Questions

I researched online, but couldn't find the answer to this. Obviously, it's out there, but I'm missing it so I thought I'd ask at the good old RPF!

I've seen the Fett costuming standards for admission into the 501st. My question is, would a costume that takes elements from the various onscreen incarnations instead of imitating ONE in particular be accepted. For instance, if I wanted red gaunts like the ROTJ but no boot spats like the ESB, or if I decided to do an ANH SE with an ESB rifle, things like that. Doesn't he wear two different helmets in the SE anyway? Hey, if the movie itself isn't gonna be consistent...:rolleyes

if you're wanting to make a Fett for admission into the 501st, you have to pick a movie/type and go with it. You can't mix and match.
I think if you asked that question to most fett builders, they'd want to lynch yah :lol

And weren't both helmets used in the ANH SE?

I know some Fett builders would be offended by this question, but I figure hey, in the spaces between movies, gear was slowly modified or changed. And I figure that he maybe had variations on these pieces in his cargo hold!

OT a bit, does Fett just have the one hose from the one gaunt in ESB?

Maybe I'll just do my favorite mix n' match Fett for a mannequin or something, though it would be fun to be part of the club. Oh well, I prob wouldn't be able to afford dead on accuracy anyway, and have to cut some corners, so membership is likely out of reach regardless.

OK
here we go...
The "SE" Fett is essentially the ROTJ suit with the ESB helmet.
It also has 13 ammo pouches and the post-Sarlaac damaged ROTJ Jetpack. It was cobbled together at the last minute by Don Bies (yeah, the R2 guy LOL) to add to the Cantina scenes in ROTJ.

Lookin' good Don :thumbsup ;)

The suit was also used with the ROTJ helmet for the "restored" footage with Jabba in ANH. However, to be accurate, you'll need to swap shoulder bells from right to left as seen here;

Now, on to your ESB hose question.
In ROTJ, Boba has 3 hoses to the right gauntlet ( only one is left when the "SE" portion is filmed) in ESB, he has only one on the right gauntlet.

You can do the Mix&Match for yourself, I'm sure Boba did the same on the ship (if it were in fact reality) but, when you start really getting into the Boba costume, you'll naturally start heading down the accuracy path.
Once you start, you'll never turn back. ;)

the easiest way to think of it is that your suit needs to match some particular on screen incarnation of boba.

so, for example, the esb helmet is seen onscreen with the rotj suit, so that's ok.

the rotj helmet is not seen with the esb suit, so that is not.

be wary of promo photos, since they are some times odd variations / poorly assembled / etc...

Oh, I've been LIVING on that site lately! I've downloaded some templates and so forth, read up on stuff, but have yet to actually register.

Thanks for all your help and so forth so far...I'm totally leaning a moderately customized ESB, but perhaps the accuracy bug will hit me.

Incidentally, I've downloaded some WOF templates, but I'm having trouble sizing them correctly. Anyone know the height or width or something of the shoulder bells for my scaling purposes? Width, height, whatever of the chest armor would rule too, if anybody has it.

Thanks!

So, who are you trying to please? Yourself or a bunch of snooty purists? It's YOUR outfit. Hell, give Fett bunny ears and clown shoes if it makes you happy.:lol Fun is the name of the game here, folks. Let's keep a grip on that, ok...?

that all depends... if you WANT to join the 501st, that sort of thing matters ;)

Do it for yourself!! Not for the 501st.. Those guys are hard to please, and it really doesn't mean much if your part of them or not. Nobody outside of here really cares what group your with ... They will be happy to see a guy in a Boba Fett costume

ok, I suppose you could do whatever you want.
but why make a costume and not go for accuracy?
I feel that people that deviate from the standards established by a group are using "individuality " as a cop-out because they lack the skills and/or resources to reproduce a costume correctly.
but hey,that's just me. I'm a snooty purist .

Also bear in mind this, if it were necessary to make the costume yourself..... there would only be about 50 members, and the would be almost all of them women.
Make it yourself. Make it how you want it. ftr

Speak for yourself. It certainly matters to thousands of us, that's why we took the time to pay attention to the details and join up.

And who out of here would SEE you in that non-accurate Fett if you weren't with the 501st? People at a convention? That's about it... join the 501st and you'll have far more opportunities to showcase those skills and the fruits of your efforts by wearing it to all sorts of fun events. Most of which actually benefit charity (which adds even more to the people who care list).

Now, MY advice as someone who's been an admin of The Dented Helmet for many years now and someone who's been a CO of a large 501st Garrison for 4 years now....

Build the suit YOU want and that YOU enjoy. If you want to wear it to things other than conventions, by all means learn all you can from members of both groups and have a blast doing it!

Well said :)

The first half of that statement is a little harsh man, but I agree with the second half. If you wanna join a club or play on a team you gotta play by their rules. Fett was my first 501st approved costume, half of the enjoyment was pouring over all the minute details. If that is not what you are into then don't join the club.
Costume building is supposed to be fun, so with that being said build Fett in whatever makes you happy. If you'd rather build a Fett with parts from all version then go for it. If you wanna build fett for the 501st then do it. The most important thing is have fun with whatever choice you make.

Considering his thread title has "501st" in it, and he explained that he was interested in 501st acceptance....Im guessing hes trying to please himself, while getting acceptance to the "snooty purists"

and to be honest, i find it laughable that someone on the RPF, would call the 501st snooty purists in the first place

Pot, meet kettle.

Building a Fett costume is an amazing test of your skills and a fabulous learning experience since it encompases so many different mediums - and that's whether you choose to go accurate or not.

I know all about scaling issues and it's definitely important as wearing armor that's either too big or too small looks like you're wearing daddy's armor.....or you stole your kids gear. It might help you to get the vest done first and properly fit it and then scale the shoulders to fit that.

Best of luck with whatever direction you choose to take!

Snooty purist? Me? Nice one, insulting a whole bunch of people who you've never met. That takes class.
