3D Designed and Printed 1/350 Daedalus Class

With the recent auction of the Chronology model, the abundance of reference material has inspired me to create an accurate copy of Jein’s Daedalus class ship disign. I’m designing it in Cinema 4D from scratch. Jein’s was about 1/300 based on a 140m length. I’ll be shrinking it to 1/350 to go with other models I have of that same scale. So 40cm or 15.75”.



This will be internally lit so I’m making it hallow with window cut outs. The only difference I’m going to make from the original is I’m adding running lights. Red and green blinkers to the nacelle tops and white strobes to the back of the secondary hull. I’ll print it in resin in 15 parts.

There were apparently two models built of the Daedalus. The first was the one used in the 1994 Star Trek:Chronology book. The second was made from a cast of the first and was seen in Sisko’s office in Deep Space Nine.



There are a couple of differences between them. The Chron model is way more detailed. It has vents on the nacelles and more complex pin striping. It also says USS Essex on the front of it and USS Horizon on the back. This was so that it could be two different ships from two different angles in the book. The DS9 model says USS Horizon on the front and back.


The last big difference is the paint job. The Chron model has a hull colored nose cone with a series of white dots on it. The nose cone on the DS9 model is gold and has silver dots.


The Daedalus always looked like a mix of NASA and Star Trek elements that was like a link between the two. I realized one of the reasons was that the nacelles are a kitbash of the 1/144 Revell Space Shuttle booster rockets.
