This project is big, really big thing. Originall thought for the Bison comes from Starfleet Museum and it’s father is Masao Okazaki. I’ve based my profiles on those from Museums page, where there also are plans for the ship, done by Allen Rolfes. 88,9 cm long in 1:350 scale, pre Federation passenger liner, before Earth-Romulan war will be fully lit, with many transparent parts. As many as I can do that is. From my own profiles presented here I’m thinking of Venusian miners, Martian (Tyrr), Jovian or Outer Planets lines. My profiles are study ones only, done in one day in ms paint, nothing fancy, just to show the looks. I elaborated them for a time, but there will be no further development of them in higher resolution.
I have seen the Starfleet Museum page years ago for the first time, I didn’t had the Internet at home at the time if I recall correctly. I didn’ like it very much then, because I was into canon designs only. Yet from Masao’s fleet few ships were memorable and there was one ship named “Żubr” with diacritic dot on “z”. In 2011 I contacted their Creator, asking for blessing. For a while there I was thinking of a paper model, previously developed and built by Jason Sutton, also in 1:350. Yet, paper is not my cup of tea, so balsa nad plastic sheets were on my mind instead.
LOT bison is the first profile I made, The first cosmic żubr was a neat idea for me. And there it is, "Żubr" from Silesia space yards.
Cosmo-Lloyd is a kind of joke. Lloyd had few airlines on the world, or few operators were using Lloyd’s brand in their names. One of those lines was 1922 Polish Aerolloyd (don’t mistake with german Aero-Lloyd from 1980). The ships colors correspond to 1920’s Junkers F-13.
Two long martian liners are my next jokes. First has colors of early Soyuz soviet space schips, with red accents. Second is leased from Tui Group. Tui leases their planes to various operators, so I decided that similar practice will accur in the future and in space. And so the “World of Tui” became the “Uni of Tui”. If Tui Group wishes to use this slogan, let me know.
Next Martian is a different look on one ship, “Tyrr Innerstellar”, that is space travel in Sol system only. Ship is not big, has an old warp drive and is not fast. But is suitable for Mars colonists, whom want to visit Earth or Jupiter system in cheap way. Vast space, a bit more that in other Bison versions is dedicated to trees. Two green levels on the ship’s bow, which were usually I class, in “Tyrr” liner are another arboretum. The colonists may like greenery more than others, I think. I imagine, that vast spaces of the red planet's dome cities will be given for forests. From here is my Mars emblem, circle devided in half. Half red, half green. I’ve taken word “Tyrr” from Ray Bradbury’s “The Martian Chronicles”. I recommend this novel compilation, it’s as awsome as Stanisław Lem’s “Robots tales”. Considering poor quality of this operator services, word “Tyrr” may as well be <”The” Your Rackety Rockets>.
Jovians, that is colonists from Jupiter’s moons also have their own line. Joint enterprise of dome cities from Europe, Ganimedes, Titan, Calisto and others with United Earth gov is big ship for serious tasks. Serious operator, “Jovian Worlds Space Routes”. In turn “Io Express” is private venture, operator adverts it self with slogan “Galaxy’s biggest pizza deliverer”
Like in colonies from Jupiter system, colonists from three furthest gas giants decided to invest together in „Outer lines” spaceline that could handle their homes and mines, beside regular connections. "Outer Lines" handle mainly outer planets of Sol system, but it liners can be seen sometimes on closests ex-sol planets.
Last Bison project of mine is a child of same problems as of „Outer Lines” users. Too small trafic over Venus. Her mines needed not only supply of equipment, which was wearing off quickly, but also transport for miners coming home for rest, and for their second shift. Standing in front of problems, which earth mining and industrial corporations could or want not to solve, miners took their chance and opened "Venusian Celestial Line” of their own. A drop in the ocean of needs, it became the first step in resolving two closest to Sun planets problems.
Sadly I've put the project aside for two long years. Now taking advantage of the day-off and under the massive influence of the fellowship, I finally got back to building. Fusalage is chiseled in styrofoam. I've cut it in fragments and using semicircular cardboard templets carved preliminary, all but bow and engine nacelle. After completing them I'll sand and puty, probably doubling the activities for a few days.
