2022 Kenobi Series Lightsaber Screen Caps SPOILERS

The prop hanging on the Celebration costume display is definitely a resin or rubber stunt cast!
But Obi-Wan‘s hero saber is also a Master Replicas, albeit modified with a Roman Props ANH Emitter. There are several tells!View attachment 1580437
Also on a somewhat related note the Vader saber in the new Obi-Wan series is also believed to be a Master Replicas as well, the faux end cap, overall thickness, & angled grips are a dead giveaway. Also the clamp position & mirror/chrome under the bubble strip!View attachment 1580438
Did they actually try to replicate the nail in the clamp lever?!

As intriguing as the reasons are for going with a MR Obi ROTS, I'm more intrigued as to why they went with a MR Graflex. Vintage flashes are still readily available and easy to mod. If it was a matter of convenience and time, you'd have to think just about every prop master/hand out there has a Graflex sitting in their personal collection that could have been used. They've also used Roman's replicas before. So, why go with the MR one? Maybe it's as simple as one of the crew has a particular fondness for the MR, has one in their collection, and wanted to put it on screen??? Or maybe the **** show that coolhandluked mentioned put them in such a bind, MRs were the best option available?

Unpopular opinion...

I like the Obi-Wan series saber. I wasn't a fan of the ROTS saber compare to the ANH version but it is canon so it makes sense that he would effectively replace parts over the years so it gives us the connective tissue of that.

In my head-canon, Obi-Wan went ahead and completely refurbished Anakin's saber because A) it actually fell near the lava on Mustafar and would have been more damaged and B) he had no intention to use it until Luke was ready for it. His saber on the other hand he wasn't really using so he just replaced a (presumably) damaged emitter and buried it. I guess at the end of the show he will ultimately decide to not rebury it and therefore will slowly replace parts over time as he starts carrying it again.

Sad to hear they decided to not use something that looks closer to ANH but it seems like it was a conscious choice for whatever reason.

Myself I kinda wish they had seen Ro-lightsaber's take on a post Mustafar Obi-Wan saber.

I love the heavy weathering, on what is typically a clean and bright lightsaber.

Also an exactra bubble card looks really good in the ROTS saber. I wish they would have added that as an additional transitional piece.

I just find it funny that this newest saber matches the MR in coloration and orientation everything...... except that center mark on the pommel. The two props that have and will be auctioned both have marks. The MR has a mark that looks like first saber that was auctioned.(a center hole with a small circle outside it.)

If I was molding and casting this saber, the pour spout would be on the bottom of the pommel. It is very likely that whoever molded it felt the same and that detail (if it was indeed on their master, whatever that master may have been) was probably sacrificed for a quicker and easier mold and clean up process. You’d be able to pull the saber and belt sand the sprue flat with ease.

Ah, good point! As you can tell I don't know much about casting, lol.

Ok, more importantly….
Who’s going to do a run?

Before I read this thread, I said to myself, I’m NOT buying another Obi-Wan saber. After going through this thread I had a change of heart. Now I must have one. I like that they used the ANH emitter.
It would’ve been good though if they put in the calc bubbles in like Anakin’s Graflex.

They wouldn't have to scan anything. As inheritors of LFL property, they'd have the original cad data
I’ve always wondered about this. We know now the physical archives are accessible to Disney productions, but that it isn’t necessarily a fast or easy option.

Is the same true for digital assets? I know a lot about physical production, but pipelines on FX/digital stuff I do not.… back in the day ILM did all things Star Wars, but these days FX shots are spread out between in house teams on production, and Various boutique houses out in the world. Are models and assets shared between them or does each house have to create their own based on shared source material?

We know there was a 3D file for Obi-WAN’s saber as far back as ROTS, for digital stunt work and Grevious. Would that same model still be in use today? I’m sure that has been remade in newer software given how far back that was, but for the sake of discussion, would that model be the property of ILM or would it be sent off to every FX house that needed to work with it?

There’s also the fact that we know Lucasfilm’s reference material for licensees is all over the place which is why we know some people, like the MR folks, got pics of one version of a lightsaber, while
video game teams, or publishing teams for lightsaber books and Visual dictionaries get others.

I was wondering if it was the static or FX Balance pipe they used for the saber - If I’m not mistaken, this looks like the static version that’s been cast.

SP Sabers is doing a run called 'exile elite'. He said he has seen the prop. His other work looks amazing so I trust that whatever he produces it'll be exceptional quality.
SP Sabers looks quite good. I believe his is based off of the scratch built saber, not the MR/Romans mash up.

SAME here dude haha. I just have to say, I’m mainly a purist, I don’t currently even own any prequel hilts. My collection is all screen accurate OT pieces, but I LOVE this version that they have chosen. As I look through the photos, it is REALLY growing on me. Didn’t wanna pull the trigger on the Romans just yet (as much as I love his pieces) because of that grenade section. Definitely looks different in the show and celebration photos. Excited to see if someone will be doing a run!

I'm with you...my favorite hilts are in the OT, but when i saw the new Kenobi i'm like, i pretty much had the hilt like 2 years ago because i also got Romans V2 steel and found out then that the Balance pipe was compatible with the Inception, V2, Mk1 and Balance V4. I interchanged them then but since it wasn't a Canon hilt at the time i just dismissed it. It looks great!! The Inception mashup is plenty good enough for my taste and since Roman has the best ANH Obi imo, that's the version i chose. I already tried the Balance pipe on the KR OWK3 eco and even though it looks nice, just not as good as the Romans. It will be an awesome challenge for someone to do one spot on.

This is the KR OWK3 eco with Roman's Balance pipe unweathered...grenade section is too narrow
