2001 Monolith build

My winter was a real let down...the snow and the cold was a no-show.

Even as I write this on 3/10/2025 there are lots of people just a little to the north and south of us that still might get dumped on with this last blast of winter....
But here?.....nothing.
I watch the radar and its like the clouds seem to split and go around us?
Its a concern for me as I own a little wine vineyard and we always need a lot of rain in the spring to get things going on the right foot.

Now as far as the maintenance of the Monolith after this first winter goes..
It needs fresh paint on the south side that gets all the summer sun.
I am really thinking about getting that "Bed Liner" type paint that is used on pickup trucks to see if that might offer a bit more protection to the sun?
I need to try to find a video of that stuff being painted in a sign or something that looks like the monolith to see how it works?
Other than that south side painting, the Monolith is ready to.....um....entertain guests?
"I watch the radar and it's like the clouds seem to split and go around us?" Is the Monolith influencing the weather over your state?:lol::eek::eek::unsure::unsure: As for protecting any surface from the Sun; nothing on this planet can protect a surface for the damaging rays of our Sun! It's going to be a yearly, or once every two year (depending on the % of light you'll have a year) repainting or refreshing the paint.:(

The main issue there is , is that I have turned the monolith so that one of the narrow sides is pointed into the direction where most all the wind comes from here.
This has really helped the monolith not be harmed by the strong winds we have gotten here..., but it also means that the wider flat side to the south is positioned to get the direct blast of the hottest summer afternoon sun.

AND......black paint just kicks up the temp on that side!.....

so I do agree that there is going to be constant need to maintain fresh paint.
The problem is, is that the heat does cause the paint to peel, and that requires I get out the ladder and scraper.

Thus......enter my newest idea of a layer of bed liner.

Will a few coats of black bed liner help?.....I got no idea....

Bed liner instead of black paint might keep it from needing to reapply.....but bed liner is not as smooth as paint and might be more glossy instead of matte. I don't think bed liner with paint over it would be a significant improvement.

its the back side of the Monolith that people do not see that is the big problem.
It gets the sun, whereas the viewng side is always in mostly shade except for the mornings..

I have also seen that there actually is a smooth finish bed liner......

I have also just learned of something called "Anti-peel " paint....

Its still way too cold to order any yet, but I do need to study this stuff to see what I need to order as it gets warmer

Short of re-doing the Monolith in black stone, the paint will have to be re-apply almost every year. The Sun is a builder and a destroyer at the same time:(
