Here are some pics the work I have done on Scott Alaxander's beautiful 1/12 2001 EVA Pod. I have used Paul Bodensiek's custom backlit panels and his drawings for a more accurate interior.

Its just tapped together without the interior in place.

The film canister will be the base.

Feedback and comments are welcome.

Enjoy!

Upon seeing your photos, I had to sit down, take a stress pill, and think things over. :rolleyes

I have always had the greatest enthusiasm for the film... and that I think is all any conscious entity can ever hope to do. :sleep

Just a moment...

Just a moment...

Thank you fellas! :)

I only hope that I can do the same for Jesse's 1/24 Raptor....the best part is it has a FLAT finish! man I hate gloss or satin finishes as a final exterior look.

The Pods seat is my design....the kit had no supplied seat and the actor sat on a fruit crate found lying around the studio. I tried to stay with the style of the interior and padding.

Tonight I'm finishing up with final wiring and glueing together all the major assemblies.

Its soo good to see months of work finally come togther and take shape.

Come to think of it, the space pod would have been in zero gee! So no seat would have been necessary. :lol

Similarly, the Apollo Lunar Module had no seats... the astronauts simply "stood" at the controls, but were kept from drifting around by restraint bungees.

So probably the Pod pilot was expected to just squat in position, with off-screen restraints holding him in place. Never thought about it before... :unsure

Fantastic work now all the "base" needs is some gaffer tape holding it closed with 2001 written on it in black marker :)

Thanks guys! :)

A friend brought up a good point the other day. At shows and contests, it would be a shame if only the front or back could be viewed. Now I'm thinking that a 'slow moving' motorized rotating base is nedded.

There is a member of our local Sci-Fi model club who can program small chips to do anything make it so that it stops at the front for a minute then at the rear for another minute....hmmmmmm.

I'll post if I get anywhere with that. Needs to be soon though....its for a local annual Oct 13th Sci-Fi / fantasy model contest. YIKES!

NEW PICS!!
The main halfs and the earmuffs were set inplace using 5 min opoxy. Then tomorrow its Aves Apoxie Sculpt to the rescue!
In a few more days I'll be finished! YIPPIE!!!!
The eye pic is a bit fuzzy and looks a bit more orange than it is. I used a red defuser behind Paul's backlit art and drilled a small hole in that so that Hal's eye center was more pronounced. I'm very happy with the way its coming along.
The door is sooo smooth it glides open and closed and it does so by just tilting the pod left to right...gotta love it! :D
The masking caps in the headlamps need to saty in place till I'm completly done with painting.
I chose the red handle version cuz I like the way it looks plus it says emergency more to me.

I'll make sure to do that. The only thing around here to worry about is the cat.....and it has learned that the Model area is OFF LIMITS!

Thanks guys! :)
