2001 Astronaut helmet

I have a Cinemagic magazine from 1980, which in the letters section shows someone who made his own 2001 Astronaut suit including helmet, for about 60.00 1980 dollars. The pics shows a really impressive suit.

dust off your scanner! we need pics.

You aren't on your own there Larry.

There are the suits of 2001; and then there is daylight.

Certainly when it comes to completing cherished hopes, I would love to have the chance to pick up the set.

I know Mike was shooting for Wonderfest to have it completed, and I'm sure we'll all be picking our jaws up off the floor when we see the pics. I was very, very seriously thinking about flying into Louisville just to see it and shake his hand, but with San Diego being a week later, we just couldn't swing me away from the business the weekend before.

Well strange as it may seem, after waiting decades, I am happy to wait however long it takes for this project to be finalised.

I can understand your desire to fly interstate to the work close up (and shake the craftsmen's hand), I would love to do something similar - but the Pacific Ocean gets in the road.

wow guys Im flattered as hell so here ya go.
first is a shot of the sets being boxed up for the trip.
found an old crate that was very strong and kind of cool on its own.

then I spent two days at Acme with Clint trying to get the aluminum collar milled.most of the credit for the superb job on the collar goes to Clint who donated his time away from his own Wonderfest deadline to help out a friend.
here is the collar on the Bridgeport being finished up.

after a long and somewhat event full drive to Louisville I arrived to put the pieces on display with other fine pieces of memorabilia including the piece I had on loan from Nicotero to take measurements off of for my helm.

then I had my supreme geek moment when the two actors who wore the original pieces in 2001 came over to the table to check out my work.
some times in life things just click.last year I had nothing like this in my collection then wonder fest announced that Lockwood would attend then Dullea followed .I busted my A$$ to get this together in time working right up to the time I left for the show.
and it was all worth it just to hear the admiration these two Icons in my life had to say about my work.
I have heard that you never want to meet your childhood heroes because they will always let you down.but not this time.these two genuinely seemed to love being in each others company and played off each others stories and were just so kind and friendly it was all I could hope for.
