2 Sonics for the 2nd Doctor?

Snap! I went for one too. Mine looks a little redder. I've been looking online for white, but they are slightly different to these Orange ones as there is a slight cutaway on each side. Could be the same as the one Pat has, who knows? May get one of those too... just in case ;)

This is the only white one I can find. As you can see it does have cutaways at the side. Very close tho to the orange ones. Looking at the picture of Pat again, I think that his is like the orange ones, but a slightly longer hoop.

Anyone know the make of the white one as all Acme whistles have names& No's. In the eBay auction it was with WWll items.

There doesn't seem to be any cutways on the whisle in the photo.

The main differences are the colour, the loop end and the lack of the Acme Info. All of which I should be able to fix...

The one I have will come apart so I could make a mould and cast a new one in white.

Where did you find that? Are there anymore? You weren't the one that beat me to the eBay bid last week were you? ;)

There's a "ditching whisle" on e bay(from Australia) right now.
Cream colored bakelite from WWII.

Was most likely white but has discolored with age.

Cheers for that. :)

Will have a bid, but these WW2 collectors are worse than us! Will bid quite high. Lost out on my last bid methinks cos it was War memorabilia.

No, I didn't bid against you mooneye. I ordered mine right before posting here. Picked it up on ebay. Seller had a price of $45 + shipping OBO. 6 hours left I offered him $25 and he agreed quickly.

Why so much? It was also listed as a WWII Bakelite Ditching Whistle.

OK, I forgot to mention that I am now 100% convinced that the whistle was used as a Sonic Screwdriver in Fury From the Deep. I didn't buy it as a "Sonic Curiosity", I bought it as the Sonic MkI.

The first bit of info you need to know is that these are not publicity photos. The shots of Patrick holding the whistle are known as Tele-snaps. Tele-snaps are specific collection of high speed photos taken by John Cura of live television broadcasts. Most notably Doctor Who episodes. The only existing version of Fury From the Deep is comprised of these photos. (Thanks John!)

Now, if you go to this link (the same one I posted earlier), and jump to 0:26 you'll notice the whistle pointed at the large screw that is seen to be extended later when the control box is open.

"It's a Sonic Screwdriver. It never fails."

Have to just correct you. The picture I've posted on here with 'sonic' in hand is NOT a telesnaps picture. It is a publicity still. The quality is totally different & has been around long before the telesnaps were officially released. The Dr Who mag released lots in the 90's as sets. They have released Hartnell in a booklet last week & hoping Pat's will follow. But this & real screwdriver picture along with the TARDIS crew walking along the beach are publicity photos. As for the Whistle being used as a Sonic? I think it was, just because this photo is nearly the same as the telesnap taken on air of this scene.

I was unclear I think .I did not mean to imply that every image in the video was a TS, just the important one.

This IS a Tele-snap from FFtD.

Ah right I see what you mean Organic, that shot. Well spotted Sir :) There's the flatness of the Whistle end. Funny how these things have not been noted before eh? & right under our noses! Are we sure Michael. Not 100% but really looking good. I'm awaiting for some confirmation on this, hoping I'll get a response soon. Will keep you posted. ;)

It's way to thin to be the end of the whistle.... but they may have adjusted the photo to show the bolt better.

The way they animated the bolt is so bad it passes through the "sonic" right at the end of the segment.

At :018 the Doctor is shown holding something thinner and longer than the whistle. Back in post #33 of this thread mooneye63 had a photo showing the Doctor with a regular ini screwdriver in his hand... could we be seeing the plastic handle from the screwdriver in the other two shots?

Who has two thumbs and a whistle?

Certain? Heck no. Convinced? Yup.

In response to your comment about the thinness of the end, I submit this image of the whistle.

Though flipped 180*, there are an uncanny number of matching lines between the two. I think maybe it's being held differently than one first assumes.

I have a couple more grainy ebay pics from the auction if y'all want to see them.

Take no notice of the 2nd picture. That has been tweaked by Loose Cannon. Now here's a thought. What if the props guy took it literally when making the Sonic Screwdriver & shoved a mini screwdriver end into a whistle. That certainly would tie up both publicity photos! I'm joking of course, but there is a part of me thinking that this could have been an option. Horrendous thought I know!

Yep Organic, the end is thin alright. Same as the modern red one I have. For those in doubt of the thinness, have another look at the white one I posted earlier re my failed ebay bid :(

I can't see them on my phone. But have a look on BBC Who page for the telesnaps of Fury. They may have a better picture of the screw telesnap close-up.

Looking at that screw picture again. You can see the little 'lip' the Whistle has. There must be a better picture on the BBC site.
