2 Sonics for the 2nd Doctor?

Cool observation here. I like it, and it'll make a nice curiosity in a Sonic Collection. I've only found the modern ones so far though, and the shape is a bit off.

Yeah I had to look for ages for it. The modern ones were all I could find, even on ebay! Got one now though. Well, you have to don't you? ;)

Another thing I've noticed. Most of the whistles available now are red. Pat's whistle is clearly not. I may end up having going with the newer body style just to get it in white. I guess it could be painted though, I dunno.

I wonder if they were also originally metal?

At least it has the "sonic" part down then. ;)

For the screwdriver bit there's the classic picture of him on his own with the Gas hatch open. In his right hand you can clearly see a mini screwdriver. Ha! Now wouldn't that be funny if the original Sonic was just a domestic screwdriver instead of a torch!:lol

Here's the thing...

The Doctor has always had an array of tools, both sonic and otherwise. However unless a tool is referred to as a "sonic screwdriver" there is no honest way to determine what it is. Even if it's used in the exact same way the first sonic screwdriver is still the penlight.

It's a nice little prop to have but to call it a sonic screwdriver isn't right IMHO.

Except he (Troughton) repeatedly refers to his Sonic Screwdriver in the scenes where he uses it.

Example from "The War Games"

Quote 'The Doctor': This is a Sonic Screwdriver...

Therefor, Sonic Screwdriver, right?

A similar exchange occurs in Fury From The Deep when the Doctor produces the prop in question.

Quote 'The Doctor': It's a Sonic Screwdriver. Never fails.

It's a dodgy one, but a Sonic none the less.

Totally agree Organic, if he says it's Sonic, it's Sonic!

There were some colour pictures discovered during the beach filming of Fury about 15yrs years ago (which I had & now can't find) they may show us the colour of the whistle/Sonic. Anyone got copies they can post up?

here we go...

Pat with a Screwdriver in hand.

& a colour picture of all the gang in Fury. Interesting to see Victoria has a different whistle on her jacket.

There are more colour photos of the three on the beach somewhere, but cannot find them on the web :(

Great pics!

Victoria's whistle looks to be the same as the one Patrick was holding in the earlier pics. Couple that with the pic of Pat holding a real screwdriver and now the waters have been muddied.

It is possible that they figured nobody would ever look closely enough to notice, but I dunno.

Screwdriver or whistle? Gawd I wish somebody would find the lost video. :/

Yep, Looks the tow whisles look the same to me as well.

Intresting how the youtube clips show the Doctor talking to Jamie while holding something long and silm, that does not look like the whisle. But then plays the audio of the Doctor saying It's a sonic screwdriver while showing the photo with the whisle.

Out of Context....

Ah the YouTube clip will be from Loose Cannon recons. They use animation & photo-trickery to produce excellent results from telesnaps & publicity photos. To create new pictures to match the story. That is a mockup by them. I have quite a few of their recons, highly recommended viewing & now all on YouTube or from their own site free. No profit made. Hope I'm allowed to mention that mods?

I didn't notice Victoria whistle hanging there I must confess. I thought the thing slightly higher was the Whistle, but that seems to be the tube you blow down. Hmm white or grey eh? Blimey I didn't expect all this when I started the thread. Ah well...

I bought the Orange whistle & on further searches found a white on as seen on Victoria life jacket in the colour picture above.

I was hoping to report more on it re size against the orange one etc, but after a week of being the only bidder, i was pipped at the post due to lack of update from ebay :'(

I may have further news re this ever being a prop... fingers crossed & stay tuned.

Look what showed up in the mail today.

A few slight mods and a coat of primer and white paint and it's good to go.

Still cool.... even if it was only used in these press photos.
