2-1B Surgical Droid

Those colored wires are 3 pairs of low volt phone wires - one pair is orange, one green, and one blue. Available at any Home Depot, just strip off the tan wire insulation and you're good to go!

Got some 0.3mm aluminium at the hobby store today, so I went ahead and made the middle strip real metal! Tough to capture in pictures, but it looks much better than the painted silver strip before.

Guess the next step will be drilling out those silver "dots" and find some rod to replace them with metal as well.
And then find or scratch something for inside the mic.

Are you ready with the neck piece yet, zorg? :D

Wow Dan, WOW. The colour looks great in that light.

The metal band makes a big difference. Not sure why you will bother with the metal dots?
Hey it's your droid.
I did try and get the Alice band as smooth and level as I could for the very reason of putting a metal strip or tape on it...

As for the clear neck, this goes out to all.
They will be ready when they are ready.
This might be next month, or in 6 months. I don't know.
They are a total PAIN to do. I want them done more than anyone. When they are available I will post on this thread.

Anyway keep it up Dan, the droid is really impressive but I wouldn't have expected anything else from you.

the weathering process made the paint less vibrant, it looks really good now :)

As Scott has mentioned earlier, the silver dots seem to stand out during some of 2-1Bs appearances, meaning they must have been separate pieces as well. Might as well try and replicate that as well. But I'm not 100% convinced yet. Should be an easy enough mod, but not sure if it'll make that big a difference.

Maybe I'll give the mic innards a shot first.

What weathering did you do? The film ones seemed to have quite a bit of dry brushing.

I just did a quick wash with some dirty brown to bring out the detail, then gave the whole thing a proper rub down with my old weathering towel, which "buffed" it up a little, maybe I took off some of the blue allowing the silver undercoat to show through a bit..

ok, as the wires in the tube have been mentioned: I don't think the tube we see on screen is the same as on that exhibition droid. Looking at the screen caps, it doesn't seem to be a completely clear tube, but rather something along those lines:

You can clearly see it in this screen cap:

And while the pattern is not as obvious, you can see it's not a clear hose in this pic:

So I'd say the hose on the display droid is not the one we see in the movie. Makes it hard to say if the wires are screen accurate or not.

WOW R2Dan, this is awesome ! the color and the real shure mouth are perfect !!

I also bought a kit from zorg, I won't buy a real shure shell but I will paint the mouth.

I must say zorg did a top job on this kit, the casting is perfect

if you look at the display droid, it looks like there are additional clear tubing added to the arms around the elbow areas.

i will need to look about for other pics but i have to go to work now , nightshift! arrrrggggh!

wow, you didn't take long to get that done!

did you use the same colour as dan did?

I did not used the same color as dan.

I used 4 model kit colors together : blue + metal gray (lighter and darker) + black + white spirit.

This is the kind of color I wanted : not too dark and blue grey metal

P.S : when I like something I like to take my time and to finish it as soon as possible :)

It looks really good now in my collection

my guess is 1/2" (12 - 13 mm) for the hose. Will shop around for one tomorrow :)

says the guy who is currently doing a bang up job at painting his Boba lid. We're all special here ;)

Any idea what the hose connection greeblie is attaching the hose to the mic? I have a 45acp shell that I almost want to try for it.

I don't know If someone can identify the exact original greeblie.
Anyway I used a pen painted in silver I decided to cut and it has the same diameter than the hose. (It can be a good solution for those who still have only the shure mouth in resin) The bigger part of the pen is inside the mouth and It won't move because It's stuck with hot glue.

But If you have a real shure mouth, It's better to have a greeblie in metal, It will depend of the diameter of the hole on the shure mouth part. Try many things to see what would be the best solution and the closest thing to the original hose connector.
