101% accurate Iron Man Helmet

Hey, I'm a long time lurker, long time member of the 405th infantry. (405th.com)
Figured I'd post up my pepakura file, it's a mashup of the front of my helmet, and the back of dung0beetles (modified to fit). it has a separated faceplate, so you can attach the pieces with (binder clips?) and resin them, then take apart and work on them individually. I think we can both be proud of this helmet, and I come bearing bad*** pics of it!
Credits
-Dung0beetle, for giving permission to mod and post his piece.
-dubean33 (405th), for unfolding so smoothly!
-timecon (405th), for the first unfold
-Dancin_Fool (405th), for the bust for the helmet to sit on

Pepakura file can be found HERE
I'll be around to answer any questions. Thanks for looking, and good luck!

how is this 101% accurate? where's the 1% bonus? :lol

nice pep file though. Looks really good from the pics.

BTW welcome to the forum.

Ok, now I can say it.
This is the ultimate pep file.
The other ones were too long and the chin was wrong. This just looks right.

Good job dude!
Now it's finally over, everybody will be able to make an Iron Man helmet as good as the original one. ;)

Extra 1% for the bust man. :)
Very good of you to share it over here as well. I hope to get going on mine sometime soon, way to many cool projects to build but this is on top for sure. :)

I concur. I, too, wish they had Pep for mac. I've been waiting for a good helmet. Any good way to get this file for a mac user in a standard 7 1/4 hat size? I figure standard size would be easy enough to adjust if needed.

Helmet looks great though

Not 101% screen accurate since the back doesn't match with the real helmet (or the life size bust)...but it's a damn cool pep file and way more better than the model made with the 3d scan of the figure (which was already really great!!)

Thanks for sharing!

Actually the back matches perfect, the top section is just a shallow cut line so it does not need to be peped simply etch it in your filler after. :thumbsup

Wow, I wasn't expecting so many replies so quickly, what an active forum!
Thanks for the kind words. As for the "how is this 101% accurate? where's the 1% bonus?" lol, it's just a term I use with all my files. It gets peoples' attention, as I see it has here! :)
@dmurphy it should already be scaled for your head, if that's your hat size. I'd look around the internet for a Windows program emulator, if you ever really want to run something made for Windows.

That seriously looks great...in fact, it looks so good, that I'm already pepping it up! I have the faceplate mostly put together, then onto the rest.

Thanks for your hard work and for making the file available.

Same here!
I printed out the faceplate to size it and see how I liked piecing it together with normal copy paper.
Loved it,
went out and bought some materials and Now i've got the first cardstock faceplate all pieced together.

I just don't agree with the traps, but it can be easily reworked during resining, etc...

Nevertheless, it's an outstanding work and when you print it, the parts match perfectly with the bust (same size)

And of course it's far better than what I could make in 3D modeling (to resume...nothing ^^)

Since I've never been really fond of pepakura, I'm wondering: is this the end of hand-sculpting or scratch-making Iron Man props? I also understand that this is very close to the Im2 release, so everybody is now running after "my own iron man suit", but I'm concerned about the diversity of the helmets that will keep popping up on this mb.

Don't get me wrong, propping should be about something else rathen than pepakura and this is saddening me a little bit. Only few weeks ago, I was following TMP, MaskedRider, Dark Asylum and somebody else works and those are good. Then pep came out and it's suddenly all the same. THe helmets look all the same, the chests and backs look all the same...there's no research or preliminary work but getting paper and bondo.

It's just a little sad to me for it takes away from the true nature of prop making.
But it is also true that technology is there to help us and make our life easier. Guess that's what pep is doing for all those of us that don't have enough skill to start something from zero.

What do you guys think? Have I just gone mad?

I don't think you are mad Gemini Khan i understand where you are coming from, however i have marveled at the skill of some sculptures on this and other forums for years and have become a little frustrated with myself that i lack the skill to pull off something that could be considered as good as a screen used piece,This has turned into a rather expensive experience for me however with the recent interest of pep files i think it may intrigue people who would not have entertained putting something together will have a go ( I know i have), The cost to put one of these together is also very appealing and if you were to screw up you will not loose too much sleep over the cost of the materials you have just put in the trash can.
