101% accurate Iron Man Helmet

Did you lay it over the bust? Do you own the bust?

I have the head that I bought on ebay. Sometimes, the seller have one and these last days he sold a full copy of the bust!

I didn't recommand this guy! Poor quality and very bad deal (damaged helmet, the seller is of bad faith, impossible to find an arrangement!).

Believe me, make your helmet by yourself with pepakura, you'll have better result (or wait for a replicas from a screen used helmet....or from the movie 3D model ^^

Don't need that right now :D
Here's a pic of my helmet made of sintra and bondo and as we say in italy: a lot of BUCIO DI CULO! Pronounced: boocheeo dee koolo means: "A PAIN IN THE A**" :D

Three topics, one post:

On the topic of the pep file: DAMN YOU. I JUST finished printing the original version of this file, and now you have to go and post a more accurate version. =D I'll be making a few modifications to it during the build process (such as the cut-out on the second rear panel, it's too tall), but it's definitely the new best one I've seen.

On the topic of pepping versus sculpting: I can definitely see what you're saying, Gemini. But I don't think it'll take away from hand-sculpting at all. As has been said, it's just a tool for those who can't afford to do a full sculpt, or have too much trouble with the symmetry (such as myself). I don't think using pep takes away from the skill required to produce a great final product, though. I've seen some truly horrible pep builds made from the same files as some truly awesome ones. I'm personally using Pepakura as well because it allows me to quickly make major revisions based on reference I find.

On your helmet: I never thought I'd see a detail-accurate version of the Promotional helmet (the one seen in the promotional posters and hanging up in Tony's lab). It's got the most details on the helmet, but the eyes are different from any other version (none of the other versions have the inner cut-outs for the eyes, and all but one of the other versions don't have that lip around the eye at all).

Honestly you really shouldn't be promoting your own work in some one's tread uless asked to do so it shows a bit of disrespect to the thread creator and gets away from the topic and their work.

That pic is too funny Gemini Khan! So is this pep smaller than the others? I just finished the dung beetle helmet and it makes me look like a bobble head. Its a nice helmet but its just huge. I guess If I had armor to go with it, I would look more proportioned but I always thought his helmet was smaller and barely larger than his head. I know I can just scale it down though. Pep is such a pain. Does anyone have measurements of an average sized Iron man helmet? So I can compare it to mine and see if I'm just crazy and its not really to big?

this helmet looks a little small, especially if it's just like the bust which it's believed to be a little less than 1:1 to avoid recasting.

I'd say scale it up by 10-15% ;)
Thanks for the pic :D

I have a small head, I scaled it down 5%
... Though I'm starting to think I should've done 10% down

Okay Guys, you've piqued my interest. What do I need to do to start making my own helmet then ? What program do I need etc ? A total noob to this pepakura stuff so go easy on me.

Google the word 'pepakura' and the viewer program should be in the first few results. Go for the most recent version.

You might have issues with the files being meant for printing on US letter sized paper or card though.. Not (UK) A4.

Pep and Custom mandos have a lot in common:

Pep just breezed thru and no attention to detail or technique often bears resemblance to most custom mandos, pure crap.

Pep used as a tool with prop finishing skills and attention to detail like custom mandos = the rare item.

Nice helmets peeps, very nice.

LOL, yeah ahhahahaha :D
Did you see the iphone video? :D
Lol! I meant it when I commented and said you have the best helmet I've seen. Now I see why you defend your method so strongly!
I just checked out the iphone vid, I couldn't understand it but you're one crazy guy lol. :D
I also heard that about the size of the bust, reviews said it seemed a bit smaller than 1:1. That's a good idea.

Usually, width of an helmet should around 19, 20 cm ;)

It's tough to guess-timate the width because I too was shooting for a 19.5cm width like the DB helmet I tried pepping early on, but if you check the numbers, when i scale the height to 265, the width is some crazy number around that same amount. Does the width on Pepakura Designer take into account the whole item as one when it is in an exploded view like this helmet is with the earcaps off? If so, I wonder how we can figure width?
