1/6 Kaiyodo/Screamin' Boba Fett

Hey Callista,

On TheOriginalTrilogy.com site theres a thread with people showing model kits they'd built....one of the guys 'Ryan McAvoy' from UK posted these images, thought you'd be interested:

He said "I spent a long time trying to get every scratch and chip right on his armour correct including the right colour rusts. I even went to the trouble of getting the shade of paint beneath the chips correct because Boba's plates that are the same colour actually have different colour paint layers beneath different panels. Also Boba's various insignia isn't decals, it had to be hand painted."

"Notice Boba's two gloves are subtelty different colours."

"I was unhappy with the included vinyl cape so I cut a new one out of canvas, dipped it in glue so it went rigged then painted it."

"I never glued the head at the neck joint, so it can be rotated like an action figure."

I asked him if I could post the photos of his build, he said, "If you want to post a link in that Boba Fett thread you mentioned, go for it. FYI This 1997 foldout poster magazine..."

"...was invaluable as it features a huge full length poster of Boba Fett showing his costume in every concievable detail. Might be able to find it on eBay. Mind you, back then I only had ROTJ on a blurry home taped VHS so I needed good photo refrences."

Cool painting

J

His helmet color looks way to dark, especially for ESB...

Thanks guys for the references!

Hopefully I will be able to spend more time on him as I feel I have taken longer then I should have to get him finished.

Told ya I been working on him :D I have some of the damage/chipping on the chest plate done but not taken photos of that yet. I'm not caring for the brush strokes you can see in his chest but a clear coat has helped that out some plus I have some spillage I need to fix in places due to not the greatest paint brushes and my hands and not always steady. He's coming along so I couldn't be happier! Post soon of more of the progress I do :D

I've always had the same problem, shaky hands. I steady my brush hand with my little finger, it helps (just don't set it down in wet paint). Use a very fine brush to touch up the rough spots with the base gray, it'll clean up just fine. If it is a spray can, spray some into a cup.

resurrection of old thread time!

I've had this kit since the mid-late 90's(thanks mom!) This kit has been thrown in a bucket of water more times than I can count to strip off the paint(usually due to bad attempts at making the paint chips on his armor).
After reading and participating in this thread in 2013, I had the finished by 2015, but I recently picked it up again and even it improved it with a 3D printed ESB style rifle and gauntlet rocket from Rafalfett and repainting the flight suit- but not before having it fall off the shelf and breaking his left leg...... man! So after fixing that I think I'm finished now, although I might change the helmet to the Rafalfett 1/6 3D print at some point. I feel these models are never truly finished sometimes..

mods include: RAH/Medicom helmet, hands, belt, pistol with scratchbuilt holster. Then a bunch of mods to convert him into an ESB Boba Fett(the kit is ROTJ outfit), which included modifying the ankle spats, hip pouches, left gauntlet. Braids for the wookie scalps, tubing added to right gauntlet and a few right gauntlet mods, custom decals, nails for toe spikes, tubing for knee darts, moved the left chest digital display, made a custom jetpack out of 3D printed parts, 12" Jango Fett jetpacks, and the jetpack included in the Screamin kit.

here the kit is with the 1/6 RafalFett 3D print. Helmet isn't completely assembled or painted yet, but I may finish it up and eventually make it the kit's helmet. I'll make a different base for him at some point, but this base works for now to keep him from falling over.

Awesome work! It's amazing how good it looks with a properly shaped helmet and other accessories! I kept mine stock except for replacing the stock for the range finder, but seeing your RAH/Medicom helmet on it and other 3d printed parts makes me kinda wanna redo mine! Beautiful work, did you print the parts yourself?

Thanks for the kind words!

I used Rafalfett's 1/6 scale ESB rifle and 1/6 scale gauntlet rocket printed off and sent to me from Shapeways. I used google sketchup to make a few 3D parts for myself: the notched collar on the jetpack the jetpack rocket assembly inserts into, the jetpack light beacon, and an exhaust vent on the bottom of the jetpack, all of which I sent to Shapeways for printing in fine detail plastic. I'm definitely considering finishing off the 1/6 Rafalfett helmet for the final helmet, as it's looks almost exactly like the ESB helmet. I don't think you can go wrong with the RAH helmet either.

What about the sidearm pulce + holster, cape, braids and ESB belt, are they also a combination of 3d printed and Hot toys/RAH pieces? This might be some of the best mods I've seen to this piece

Appreciate it!

The sidearm is an RAH and the holster is made out of thin sheet styrene cut into shape and folded back on itself to make the holster shape. The little strap that goes around the sidearm is a little piece of leather. The strap that connects the holster to the belt is a piece of styrene. I think Rafalfett has a 1/6 scale Pulce, so tracking down an RAH wouldn't be necessary.

Braids, the blond and black braids are doll hair that I bought at Michaels or Hobby Lobby and my wife braided them. The grey braids are that thin rope you can get at Home Depot on a spool, usually used to tie things down, which I just unwound and my wife braided it. It took a few tries to get the right amount of material to look the correct size on the kit. I then took some black thread and made little tie offs on the black and grey braids. The blonde braid uses blue thread for one tie off and red thread for the second tie off, which you can see if you look closely.

The cape is like a nylon/spandex material and its slightly stretchy, but it has very fine threads, so it doesn't look out of scale. I just dunked it in a paint mix of Vallejo US Army Dark Olive and Beige Brown(1:2 ratio or so) and the stripe was painted on with a color similar to Vallejo Light Rust. The material is a bit tough to work with as it is very lightweight, but once I super glued a few of the folds together it started holding a good shape.

The ESB belt and the 7 little mini pouches are RAH. The 2 large hip pouches are from the Screamin kit, but they are modified with milliput to look more squared off like the ESB hip pouches. I think I might have even widened the right hip pouch by cutting it in half vertically and filling in the gap with milliput. They are then attached to the belt via a piece of cloth, so they hang from the belt. I also had to thin the belt by carving off some of the back with an exacto knife as it was too thick initially and didn't look in scale.

It is a great kit out of the box, especially if building the ROTJ Boba Fett outfit, but there is plenty of modding opportunities with it like the ESB conversion or adding a different helmet or jetpack or making a few areas more accurate. Unfortunately, when you start modding it seems to take forever to finish, lol.
