1/6 Kaiyodo/Screamin' Boba Fett

Where are you on this project, Callista? I'm on the verge of starting my 1/4 scale Fett... Still out there, Callista...? :confused
I wish I had an update but I'm afraid I don't right now. We've had some pretty bad storms hit here lately and although we've not been blown away our house was directly struck by lightning. Went clear through the roof and into the house. Nasty mess. Almost back to work on BF. Been killing me not to make any progress.

Yikes! And we worry about earthquakes - we're a bunch of wussies out here! Hope you are OK, all things considered...

I started in on my 1:4 Fett; started a thread. Should make quick progress on it, though I'll be in Orlando for the next couple of weeks. But after July 4th I should be able to pick up on it.

Ok update for once :)

Boba Fett has got his first coat of paint today from airbrushing! Looks good so far from my first try of using an airbrush.

Pics soon just glad to finally get back to him.

Glad your back on this and survived the storms! Looking forward to your pics!

Yeah survived the storms thankfully but can now say been in a house that was hit by lighting! Not sure if that will mean I will have better luck for now on or what :p

Statstically, i'd say you're safe from that now.
But... you're still fair game for tornadoes, floods, tsunami's, Martian invasions, Death Stars approaching, earthquakes, etc, etc

Oh, and lovely Fett build BTW.
Giving me a hankering to get a kit of the fella rather than a prepaint.

U know living in tornado alley I am sure my luck will run out one of these days :(

Thanks for the complements on my build. Feels good to get back to it after having it sit so long untouched.

Btw I airbrushed him with Tamyia Light Grey paint and he looks BLUE!!!!!! So gonna throw on a coat of a light grey from Testors as soon as I get it from the hobby store today. Will take pics b4 and after and try to get them uploaded soon :D

Yeah, know what you mean about Tamiya paints, that's why I stick with Vallejo and Games Workshop exclusively these days. But, also, I wouldn't beat myself up so much if sticking with the blue. When I repainted this here Applause statue:

SDC13736.JPG

and googled the fella, he could appear with both grey or light blue togs, according to studio lighting.

Try doing a Pinhead from Hellraiser - nightmare colour refs, more horrific than anything in the film :wacko

I'm new to this site, and grateful to find this thread! I have this kit, unstarted, languishing in the basement because my past experiences with vinyl were, let's say, unfulfilling. Some of the painting tips alone have renewed my interest in building the vinyl kits I have. Keep up the good work!

Y'know In the past. I've used enamels on vinyl. And they tended to dry sticky. Its one of the reasons my Horizon ED-209 is still in parts.

Hmmmm.... I keep saying it. But it never does happen. But I should break him out. Strip him, and do a rebuild. Add cast resin girders and struts. But use acrylics instead.

As for fillers. I've used Talc and acrylics in the past. One of the best things about it is it flattens the paint and colour matches too. You just have to make sure the joint is stable.

Not been able to work on mine as much as I would like working two jobs atm but I have been collecting photos and hopefully will have time to post them soon and work some more on him :)

Real life can get in the way of so many hobbies and past times. Looking forward to more progress.

Hey Callista,

On TheOriginalTrilogy.com site theres a thread with people showing model kits they'd built....one of the guys 'Ryan McAvoy' from UK posted these images, thought you'd be interested:

He said "I spent a long time trying to get every scratch and chip right on his armour correct including the right colour rusts. I even went to the trouble of getting the shade of paint beneath the chips correct because Boba's plates that are the same colour actually have different colour paint layers beneath different panels. Also Boba's various insignia isn't decals, it had to be hand painted."

"Notice Boba's two gloves are subtelty different colours."

"I was unhappy with the included vinyl cape so I cut a new one out of canvas, dipped it in glue so it went rigged then painted it."

"I never glued the head at the neck joint, so it can be rotated like an action figure."

I asked him if I could post the photos of his build, he said, "If you want to post a link in that Boba Fett thread you mentioned, go for it. FYI This 1997 foldout poster magazine..."

"...was invaluable as it features a huge full length poster of Boba Fett showing his costume in every concievable detail. Might be able to find it on eBay. Mind you, back then I only had ROTJ on a blurry home taped VHS so I needed good photo refrences."

Cool painting
