1/6 Kaiyodo/Screamin' Boba Fett

Tamiya is very strong stuff. It is acrylic, but it almost behaves like enamel sometimes. I do like Jason, just airbrush it mostly for base coats and whatnot. I use a paint brush for clear on for eyes, but I have to be fast. If I brush too much, the paint underneath will...dissolve. It would be perfect for the visor.

I was a kid in a candy store at HobbyTown.

It was nice to finally got to a real hobby store :D

I will try to mixing my paints with a stick. I just shook them till they looked like there were mixed and I think I will be using my airbrush instead of brushes for the wide areas.

I have never had these problems with vinyl models or with acrylics paints b4 so this has been a bit of a frustrating model build for me so thank you all for the advice :D

Ooooh yeah, just shaking them is your problem. They separate pretty easily, but recombine smoothly - a toothpick or two does the trick in a pinch

Just like lacquers are "hot" compared to enamels, Tamiya acrylics are "hot" when compared to other companies acrylics. I used Tamiya clear orange over Applebarrel white for my Vermithrax dragon from Dragonslayer for her eyes. I brushed it on. When I added another coat it just pulled the whole white base coat off. I had to start over and just put a thick glob on the new white base coat. Didn't touch it again and it dried just fine.

Hang in there, you'll get it done. Plus, look at all the experience your gaining from building this kit! It will turn out great.

That's how I have been trying to look at this whole experience. It's an learning experience.

I want to learn and improve on my skill plus this is teaching me to have better patience :)

I am gonna hit either Hobby Lobby today or Wal-mart to see about getting thinner or rubbing alcohol like suggested here so I can use the paints I got in my airbrush and see what I can do with that.

I like the Kaiyodo/Screamin' kits.....did a C3P0 and next the Vader.

Looking frwd to Fett here........

UPDATE:

Got the bottom half redone and am now ready to try my hand at airbrushing and get Boba furthered :D

It seems if u put on a clear coat and then primer there is no problem with the primer drying and sticking to the vinyl model. Thanks for the advice on that, it worked great :)

Airbrushing is definitely the way to go. I have done this kit in the past and it turned out great...what I did, for his visor paint the area black as you would then use the unused end section from an old 35mm negative and trim it down to size. Hope that helps :)

Since I am a noob with airbrushing what is the best type of thinner to use when mixing ur Tamiya paints to use in an airbrush?

I was looking and a lot of the thinners also say brush cleaner so I just want to make sure I am getting and using the right stuff with my airbrush.

Water or alcohol. You could also try a thinned solution of windex, but I don't know how well that does with Tamiya.

Mix it to the consistency of 2% milk. :) Tamiya dries quickly so be sure to clean the brush out thoroughly when you're done.

Tamiya is not the best choice for brush painting. They are acrylics and require a good mixing with thinner, but they work very good with the airbrush.

If you use brushes, you should go with Vallejo paints(can be thinned with water) or something similar.

Revell aquas are very good for paint brushing too
