I'm the same. We have limited supply where I live... but at least they offer Humbrol oil based. Sadly no water based. But I hate having to have things shipped in.

Oh... not knocking the silver at all. It's what most use anyway, so will look right. I was just more inclined towards the steel and aluminum paint for mine.

Least u have a brand like Humbrol offered near you. I am lucky to find any good testor's paint in my area. All the colors (what little of a selection there are) are crap colors like hot pink and such and I don't feel like painting Boba Fett in a hot pink

I know u weren't knocking the silver. Just explaining why I went with that color.

If there is a place near you offering Testors colors, are they capable of ordering specific paints you need if you provide them with the numbers? That could be a way to get a good supply and would save on shipping. I know I can order the odd part or color of offered lines they don't have in stock at the place near me.

Starting on comment 169 he has an AWESOME technique for weathering that may work extremely well for your model. I hope it helps.

You can paint the entire thing with acrylics which are readily available at Hobby Lobby or Michael's. I'd say 50% of the stuff I paint is done with Apple Barrel craft paint. The rest are Liquitex or Freakflex.

I used cheap acrylic paints on mine. Then mixed them into the colors I wanted.

Not sure how you plan to simulate the paint chipping, but I've always wanted to try the technique of using regular table salt as a mask, myself. I haven't had a chance to try it yet but looking forward to it.

I Googled "using salt to simulate chipped paint" and this was the first article that showed up, but there are several on the subject if you Google the same phrase. Looking forward to your progress!

For Fett you would want something more controlled like latex masking.

Besides the salt method there is also the hair spray method a lot of armor guys use.

For the chipping affect I have been seriously thinking about using liquid mask to achieve the effect I want and I think I talked about that a lil bit in the video I made of me working on Boba.

I'll probably use some of the flash I have left over and do some testing with both techniques and see which one I like the best.

Looking good so far. I'm sure you'll get the chipping done right.

For the smaller areas around the face plate, you'll probably have to apply the weathering topically. If you seal the silver well, you could even scrape the paint off with your fingernail revealing the silver undercoat.

If that's the brand you are painting with, then that brand of sealer should be fine. Never a good idea to mix brands, as they may react negatively to each other.

That has been the brand of choice for me so far when it comes to sealing my models
