That is really coming along nicely. I can't wait to see more. It is always nice to see customer build-ups. Wait until you sit it next to the MR TOS 1/350. I have mine next to my scratch built 1/350 and it just looks awesome.
Looks great ! :thumbsup Very similar to the vac kit I manufactured and sold many years ago. Here is a shot of my build up. Background done with Adobe Photoshop.
I ended up making a metal armature for mine (and beefed up the hull with stiffeners). I also have mounted mine from the back via two brass tubes that resemble an exhaust on an '57 Chevy, lol. The brass tubes also serve as the electrical connection. I couldn't bear the thought of mounting it through the beautiful decal on the bottom.
You can see the ends of the brass mounting tubes on the back of the hull. They connect (but are insulated because they carry the current for the lighting) to the aluminum armature that supports the wing pylons.
Chipping away at the stone on this one. This is my favorite ship so it's a real pleasure to work on it. Got it all buttoned up and I am puttying it up. So far so good. I must say that I have reinforced the thing so much that it's heavy as hell! :lol
The front of the engine has two LEDs on each side. One green and the other cycles through different combinations of red, blue and green which gives it the effect of something happing in there, lol. The multi-colored LED has been painted on the front so all you see is the indirect effect bouncing around inside the engine (which has aluminum tape inside). I have an orange LED in the back of the engine but didn't want to have a giant orange glow coming out of the back so I painted the supplied clear resin part and just drilled out the exhaust ports only for the light. I like the effect; here is what it will look like (before and after).
Thanks, I wish I would have taken a little more time making sure the windows were lined up when I drilled them! :lol Just a few things left to do other than the biggest part of the kit which is the decals. I have to attach the front of the nacelle caps (after clear-coating), paint the rear nacelles silver, paint the emitter and make a stand. Hope to be completed by the weekend (that is if the brass I ordered for the stand arrives).
