1/350 NX-01 Completed

This is amazing. I’m assuming you paid a pretty penny for the kit? They’re impossible to get for me now
Yes, it was around $300 if I remember correctly. And I needed to buy a second one because my first attempt with the nacelles and pylons and impulse engine sections was a complete failure!!

300?!!???? Can a talented 3D artist not build a printable model. Is there no god who can make the 1/350 NX-01 available to the masses

This was a beast for me. My first 1/350 scale kit as kind of a warm up for the TOS and eventually the Refit. I started last September.

It's FINALLY done. There are a lot of flaws in the painting. Not the Aztecing I did, which I'm pretty happy with, but the actual laying down of the AK Extreme Metals paints. This was on me, not the paints. I need to be better about making sure the surface of the model is completely clean between coats, and be better about spraying into corners and edges so I don't get unwanted buildups.

Anyway, here's the finished thing. I once again installed lasers for the phase cannons. Yes, I know they are coming out of the torpedo launcher openings but there was no other way to get the laser modules to fit. Yes, lasers are dangerous. No, I don't have children in the house. Yes, I keep it safe from my pets. It's located in my second floor office and there are secondary power switches to turn on the lasers, which are powered by batteries. Thanks to Spencer Wolfe for putting those boards together! Way past my skillset. I'm just happy I didn't blow them up soldering everything together! :)

The Aztecs were Lou Dalmaso's set, which were great. I added two more layers to the saucers and custom painted the impulse housings and nacelles since his set doesn't have those.

Some pics of it with the lights out.

She is so beautiful!!! Well done on your work. Where did you get your model???

Excellent work! I absolutely love the details around the docking/landing areas, and your lighting is spot on if I dare say.

I also have one of these sitting on my shelf... like you, my plan was to use it to work up courage for the 350 refit, but keeps getting put off in favor of other projects. Did you strengthen the nacelle pylons? I read that it is a real problem with the model that the plastic alone is not enough to support the weight of the nacelles and they begin to droop over time.

How on Earth did you get your phase cannons working. I had the same idea, and did a lot of research into the topic (back in the day) but only ran into dead-ends. The only viable solution that I thought of was a laser pointer, but the beam would only be visible if there was smoke/fog in the air. stronger lasers that were bright enough to be seen, were too dangerous in my opinion.

Thanks. I did not support the pylons, though I probably should have. They are ever-so-slightly uneven but you have to look from the right angle to tell. So far no droop.

The lasers are blue diode lasers I got from eBay. They are pretty strong, but I don't have children in the house and don't fire them up when the pets are around. Even with these I need to use photographer's fog (you can get spray cans on Amazon) to really make them visible. They are powered with batteries (the model itself it powered with 12 volts from a wall outlet) and are on a separate on/off switch. The laser housings were too large to have them fire from the actual phase cannon locations, so they are firing out of two of the torpedo launchers.

That is insanely beautiful. My brain, and my finger joints snapped as I looked at your incredible piece of artwork. Insane, perfect, gorgeous! Keeper!
