1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build. Now Painting V2

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

The cowls you´re speaking about - do you mean the vents on the engine housings? I had some PE parts made for creating those vents, if someone can do PE parts for you I could provide the vector drawings I created. You still need to scratch the box beneath it, which should be quite easy.

Yes, that is what I'm talking about. I'm going to detail mine a bit more than they already are, but I'm not going to go too crazy on them. I don't know anybody that can do PE parts and I have no kits to bash for adding details here and there.

I find that I can get totally obsessed and go way overboard on things. I'm trying to teach myself not to do it. I was so damn close to taking my dremel and making that access hole in the top of the big wing (where it looks like a panel is missing) and scratching the detail inside of it. I had it all marked where I wanted to cut it and then I asked myself, do you really want to go there. Well the answer was yes, but I stopped myself from doing it anyway. :lol I'm still thinking about doing it though. I just have to figure out a good way to get the results that I want without having to do a lot of cleanup work. I don't want it to be more trouble than it's worth.

BTW, those 4 raised detail pieces in the center of the wing, am I correct that they should only be present on one side of the wing, and not on the side which is visible in your pic? They also seem to have more of a triangle shape than being rectangular.

I checked my pics and that detail seems to be on both sides of the wing. You are right about the shape being more triangular than rectangular.

Also, you have a PM.

Superglue lacks the strenght that even a 5 min epoxy has.too bacd you don't have a lathe. You could re-turn the engines or make new ones that would be better than the kit parts.

I totally wish that I had lathe. I would have made all the guns on it too. There are some angle details on the guns that I just cannot replicate with tubing.

Thanks for the advice on the glue guys. I go into my local hobby store and they have a ton of glue that all looks the same to me. :lol This is my first resin kit, so I wasn't sure which way to go on the glue.

Reply sent, thanks!

If the angle is at the end of a tube, for example if it slides over a thinner tube, you can easily create a bevel by holding the tube at an angle against the dremel´s cutting wheel and rotating the tube. Not as clean as when using a lathe, but if you´re careful it looks almost as good.

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

So, I'm at a standstill on the kits so I decided to get some building done.
Here is the secondary wing. It's rescribed and the rivet holes have been redone (first post of this thread) and I added some of the other parts to it. I finally glued some parts together. LOL

I fixed this part and got it ready for mounting on the secondary wing. I added some brass rods to strengthen the connection up.

Next, I took the plunge to drill this part out so I can add lights to this part. I drilled it out, added some tubing to hold the leds, drilled a channel for the wires to run through, and added the front part to it. The front part fits so tight that I don't even think that I need to glue it. Which would probably help me to gain access to the leds if they burn out.

Well, that all I have for now. :)

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

That looks great ! I think you're doing a lovely job of cleaning up and improving this.

Cheers

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

Hi Shadowknight. You're really making this much better. It's too bad it won't be like a remastering of the kit because it seems it could use some more definition like you're adding. Great job!

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

Thanks for the kinds words guys, I really appreciate it.

As for a remastering, i'll just be happy when all the kits ship out. I don't want to start tinkering with it now. :lol Thanks for the compliment.

I went to my local hobby store today and picked up some styrene half round and some more metal tubing. Hopefully I will get some time tonight to work on her some more.

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

Made a few other small changes.

Drilled a hole all the way through this part so I can run a brass rod through it for support. I got the idea from a thread that was bumped on another board the other day.

IMGP0430.jpg

I still need to add more support, but I will have to do that once I get more parts.

Next up is an example of what some heineken, a rotozip, resin, styrene, and bondo will do for you. The heineken being a major factor here. Everything sounds like a good idea after some heineken. ;)

Here's a slideshow of progress pics for the above.

That's all I have for now.

That is really cool mate & an extremely well executed mod. What did you use to smooth out the base of the well? It looks like custard but I'm guessing it isn't? Great Great Stuff

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

I poured some resin back into it. I figured that it was the fasted way to smooth it out.

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

You´re doing an extra mod but don´t want to increase the size of and open the cut area in the main wing´s rear edge? Come on...get some more Heineken! :lol

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

All the reference I have does not show any detail like that on the back wing, so I have nothing to go off of. :confused

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

I mean this area: (see attached pic). The cutout should be quite much larger and go deeper into the wing.

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

Yeah, I'm not seeing that on the reference that I have. Do you have reference that you can share with me on that?

BTW - Is your wing hollow?

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

There´s tons of reference on this area out there - go to www.killbyte.da.ru -> Alliance ships & vehicles -> B-Wing, there´s more than 200 photos.

I increased the size of the cutout and used the dremel to create an undercut. Pics of this can be found in my thread. There´s many greeblies in this area, can´t identify anything so I just made something up. But the kit´s cutout is definately much too small, and on the wing´s lower side the opening is deeper than on the upper side and only the upper side has the corner in it.

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

Sweet!!! I just made up stuff for the cutout that I did on the upper section of the wing too. I will take pics tomorrow and go through the link that you provided. :)

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

I think that I may very well may be done with this wing. I made a lot of mods and honestly, I'm ready to move on. What do you guys think? Should I keep making mods, or move on?

Here is what we have so far.

And I finished the last of the lower guns.

I'm interested to hear what you guys think!!!

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

It looks fantastic mate, you've done a stellar job on this so far, I'm loving the recessed area, & will def be tackling this my self now. Very inspired

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

I think you´ve already done so much that it would be a shame if you wouldn´t also increase and detail the opening in the wing´s rear edge. Or you could close it completely as on the filming miniature with the orange circles... Just don´t leave it as it is!:lol
