I've always thought that the engines on the big X-Wing were ever so slightly underscale compared to those on the original (and in my mind, "real") smaller 1:24 X-Wing.
 
According to both Lorne Peterson AND Steve Gawley, the model is not in the finished film. Whether it was filmed and cut or never filmed, I can't comment, but this story was confirmed to me by both people...and not recently. I was first told the story in 1987/88, when I first worked in the archives--4-5 years after Jedi.

I know these guys sniffed a lot of glue (myself included), but their long term memory was pretty good.

Sure he's great guy. But when it comes down to it, it was 31-32 years ago. No one can remember ALL the details. You need to cut them some slack and not take everything as gospel. If you get it from several sources, then you're better off.
