1/100 747-400 toy rework

Thanks b26354, Rob and joez2391. That portside wing's holding up pretty well, thank goodness. Feels solid so far with the kwikplastic - no sign at all that it's gonna give.

Ground the rear edges of the engine covers until they're eggshell-thin.

Thanks, bmused55 and azslogan :) I sure am glad I got the wing back. I was ready to hang her on the wall in a long picture frame with only the good side sticking out.

Man, this is shaping up to become one of the most beautiful builds I've ever seen of something I wouldn't have expected ANYONE in a million years to try and convert. Great save on the wing and the new engines look incredible. The next time some modeler gripes about how they can't build a model to look accurate unless they have all the contours just right and/or resin correction sets, I think I might have to send them to this thread. :)

Moral of the story is if you are motivated, you can do ANYTHING!

JMChladek, those are the nicest compliments I've ever received, thanks! :) Kurok and Gatekeeper, thanks - really glad you enjoy the build as much as I have.

Nothing much, Kurok. After slapping on the Pratt and Whitneys I've been deciding which livery to dress her up in but I'm leaning towards Qantas. Gotta move on with the paintjob and order those decals. Thanks for reminding me, though, as I have a habit of laying out on a project too long and forgetting where I'm at.

Thanks, guys! I really like the Socceroos Qantas livery but there are other good choices for 1/100 747 decals. There's JAL, Lufthansa, British Airways, Pan Am, KLM, Ocean Air and the NASA shuttle carrier - makes it so hard to decide. There's an even bigger selection for 1/144 - I'll have to ask around if they can be printed bigger. Looking for Oceanic, too!

I'm a sloooow builder - no matter how hard I try. I strive to devote at least 30 minutes a weekend to the hobby but still manage to fail to reach that goal :cry I spend more time on RPF reading about and admiring other people's builds - can't help it!

Gotta store these 1/100 pitot tubes away somewhere safe from my kid's curious fingers. I always store parts away safely now but so safe even I couldn't locate them. And these little buggers look so easy to misplace.

Only problem with doing Oceanic colors is that was a -200, this is a -400 (same problem applies to the NASA 747s). You could always go fictional with the livery, maybe something inspired by a real livery, but not entirely based on reality either. A cool fantasy scheme that I could see would be one based on the old red CP (Candian Pacific) Air livery (before they became Canadian and changed from red to white scheme). Those old CP Air 747-200s with their red fuselages and the polished metal wings and engine pods looked dang cool in the 1970s IMHO.

Thanks for the ideas, JMChladek. I'm also looking into having a design I like custom-printed. And if only I knew how to use Coreldraw maybe I could design one myself and print it at home using decal paper. I've always wanted to print out some tiny stenciled markings for the a 1/18 TBF Avenger I'll be repainting into one of those planes lost in the Bermuda Triangle. Those markings are white though I think I read somewhere you can't print white decals at home (sigh).
