Man, I know you were talking about adding them, but holy smokes, LOOK AT THOSE VEINS IN THE HEAD IN THE UP CLOSE SHOT. That is crazy!!!

Lookie what we have here! Someone just showed up on my doorstep. Thanks Steve!

Had to post this before and after comparing the factory paint job to Steve's. What do you think? Slight improvement?

You should have done more Mottling to the skin. I think the skin still looks life less. Skin is not just base color, shadow, highlight,

Well Mr. Sirkangol, Mini Me has very little mottling, look at the characters reference photos. He is very pale and lifeless looking, plus this is a generic statue with very little detail in the face. Thanks for your opinion, but the owner thought it was perfect as I sent him tons of progress photos. I am not Steve Wang, I am a much cheaper alternative to the guys who can't afford special fx experts, but they still get a great paint job. And there must be a reason I get repeat business from the same collectors. There are plenty of highlights and shadowing on the piece. I kept making corrections all along when I showed the owner progress photos to get it to where HE wanted it. Just ask the owner. He is 100 percent happy with it .. My photo taking skills aren't the best, I have to admit.
You can't see all the details in the pics, such as the veins on his little head and such. Just ask TheGreatGalling .

I didn't mean to get you upset. But human skin has layers of different tones.

If the customer is happy with it, then that is what matters.

But as a Freelance Artist for Sideshow, Magee Fx, Pop Culture Shock Collectibles to name a few, I do see that you could have made him more life like.

again the customer is what matters not I....

Og Kangol...

I'm not upset. I appreciate any help, but I do paint them in layers. You just can't really see it in the photograph. If you look at my Nosferatu bust, you can see it clearly. I know all about motteling and layers, I've been doing it for years. But thanks for the advice.

I appreciate everyone's comments, good and bad. I always thank posters for all feedback, but implying SJ doesn't know how to properly layer skin based on a crappy photo of a glossy statue with zero texture that I asked him to paint that way calls for my side of the story.

I am only writing now because of how happy I am with how I was treated by SJ. I am over the moon happy with the Mini Me for a few reasons.

First, I was very much part of the process thanks to Steve's constant update PMs. I think most of his customers will say his first priority is making you thrilled but he balances it with his opinion based on experience. So what you see is very much what I asked for, exactly how you see him. The customer received exactly what he wanted. I think I might even have a PM where I asked him to texture it less because in the photos Mini Me is uniform in skin color and pale.

If I had asked SJ to paint him green, he would have first PMed asking if I was sure, and then he would have done it. His technique is why I returned to him for another project. How could you be disappointed with where you are going when you are in the passenger seat the whole time giving directions?

Secondly, My picture was taken with a 3 mega pixel iPhone. I am sure everyone with a life-size painted bust knows that unless you have a studio, 9/10 photos don't capture what it looks like. Mini me in real life has a lot of things going on in his skin, including veining and variation.

The head is not very conducive to texturing because it is as smooth as glass. Sure, someone might be able to texture it no matter the circumstances, but that's not what I asked SJ to do.

Please note I am not even going into whether I think he nailed it with regard to capturing Mini me the best way he could (although I think he did), this post is about how it went down.

I'm happy = only thing that matters (to me :lol).
