1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Looks great SK. I was just reflecting on how all this started with you taking a stab at the center console -now a very small component of your overall build.

What an amazing journey you've taken!

Hey SB,

Thanks so much! I know you've been along for the ride since the beginning - I truly appreciate the long term support. :) I hope you've all enjoyed the journey so far. And without getting into too much detail... 2016 is going to be amazing!

Sofa, I am amazed by your skill, dedication, and the talented team you've attracted!

My question: what kind of system are you planning to use to incorporate sound?

So we're using a fantastic little sound board by Robertsonics sold on Sparkfun, called a wav trigger. I know what you're thinking "WAVS?! what is this the 90ies?!" yes, wavs. The unit is polyphonic meaning you can layer up triggered sounds 64 layers thick. the wavs are uncompressed audio so they play without pre-processing like clunky compressed audio MP3s. The board has 16 buttons for triggering sounds, loops, etc. and it can also be serially controlled from a micro-processor like one of our arduinos. There are two speakers with a 15 watt digital amp in the main console but we are realizing we need more speakers around the cockpit so we will be adding two subwoofers and extra speakers for more ambient clicks and sounds.

I saw the Nav chair being started back around page 202 but after about 20 pages I have gotten dizzy.

I am thinking of trying to built one.

Can someone help me out to any pages where it showed progress or is finished???

I am looking for measurements as well if anyone has them. I have been searching but not found much so far.

Thanks

Tom

My god, that's beautiful. Haven't been here in a while SK. Love the progress. I will start the Nav lights for you soon. I finally figured out the best way to make that and after seeing The Force Awakens, will add the flashing light bars too, which you will have the option to turn off, if you want to be full ESB. Of course, I was looking past the characters and ogling the wondrous falcon greeblees :)

Hi Gang,

Not much of an update. With a nonfunctional laser cutter, no access to the Space and Rocket Center and the NFL playoffs... it was a nice relaxing weekend. :)

I did manage to work a few greeblies here and there - one of two canopy greeblies. I might redo the round base in acrylic (this wood grain is a PAIN to fill)

I really like how this greeblie turned out

Light dry brushing around the edges

I dont want to weather this greeblie too much or it look out of place compared to the rest of the cockpit/greeblies

We should be back in the Rocket Center this weekend! More to Follow!

Doesn't hurt to have the odd quiet weekend Sofa, great work as always.

It's still given me my "Pit" fix for the day, thanks!:lol

Hi T,

Unfortunately the measurements for the Nav Chair were all messed up and I've been forced to start over. When I get back to the chair shoot me a PM and we'll discuss different options. I'm hoping to have them finished within the next few months.

Also, Maruska has created a fantastic 3D model of the Nav Chair. It's readily available for download. I would DEF try that option.

Hey Hey DC,

Long time no chat! :) Hope you're having a great 2016! Thanks for the kind words. Yup... I was doing the exact same thing the first time watched TFA. I was spending so much time looking at the all the MF goodness I actually lost track of the story, missed certain dialogue, etc... I'll have to go back and watch another 15-20 times just to make sure! ;)

Shoot me a PM to discuss path forward. :)

Thanks, S! :)

Hi B,

Thank you so much for the kind words and your having stuck around since the beginning! I think we made some headway since then? ;)

What kind of airbrushing do you do?

Hi R,

As much as I enjoy the time off I actually feel guilty not doing any work. I constantly think it's time wasted and I'm away from making forward progress.

This weekend we should be back and we'll be able to get these greeblies mounted to the back wall. I'm hoping for some real forward progress over these next few weeks. Plus we have a few other little electronic surprises coming. :)

I will do that. Thank you so much for your help.

As I mentioned to you and others this would likely be a one of build for my own collection but I also may do a run or commission builds. Very unlikely but I wanted to mention it.

Thanks again.

Thanks Smeeon!
I'm planning something similar (smaller scale) and want the buttons and switches to do stuff. It may be beyond my current capabilities as I just got my first arduino and started messing with it but I'm excited to learn. Keep up the good work, all!

Can someone tell me the differences between the ANH and ESB/ROTH Falcon cockpit, it's said that the ESB/ROTJ cockpit is much bigger, but doesn't seem so in the context of the films. How much bigger is "much" bigger? How many feet we are talking?

Hi D,

There are substantial differences between the ANH and ESB versions of the cockpit. The most obvious is the visual difference. The ANH version is very streamlined and clean. The cockpit consists mainly of lights, rocker switches, 1" blue and white tiles and pin stripes.

When preproduction for ESB began it was quickly realized that, with the amount of filming in the cockpit, the ANH configuration simply wasn't enough room for all 4 actors to fit and freely move about. The designers added 15" to the overall depth of the cockpit making it much easier for filming and movement. Also, the streamlined version of the ANH cockpit was replaced with an incredible amount of visual details on each panel. While most of the parts still remain a mystery, the designers added record player and stereo cassette trim plates, misc knobs, and numerous aircraft parts. It was both a visual nightmare and dream! Only a nightmare if you're trying to recreate everything ;)

I hope this helps.

Great. It really doesn't look bigger. Of course it is just 15 inches. To a casual it looks the same, just looked like they added different lighting and more varied colors to some of the lights. Thanks for the info.
