1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Can you do me a favor and provide an overview of this project's status????? Where it stands, what is done, etc????

On the Facebook it looks like several parts are well underway and way earlier in the thread it looked like the cockpit, and or console was long done or much closer than it is now yet it looks like it's being worked on?????:wacko

I have tried to keep up but have not been able to and I just don't have time to read 300 pages :)

Thanks

Tom

Hey T,

As you can probably tell we're working on the most iconic part of the Millennium Falcon - the cockpit. The "cockpit" part of the project has reached the 80% point. While there are a few panels that need redoing and several little details to finish, we're very close to adding the exterior skin, new canopy and the final interior/exterior details. Both the cockpit and console(s) had undergone massive facelifts and/or redesigned to be screen accurate to The Empire Strikes Back.

We're still working on the back wall and all the associated greeblies (wires, details, electrical, etc). Once we finish the cockpit, we'll probably work on the cockpit corridor and other parts of the ship to include one of the landing gear(s), Nav Computer, radar dish or maybe the quad laser gunner stations - that would be fun!

Page 270 is a pretty good to place to start. It concentrates on all the ESB cockpit details/greeblies and new door and its associated greeblies as well. It's a good lead up to where we are today. As with any build, we would like to be MUCH further along. But we're at the mercy of our own personal lives and of course pocket books. So we move at a pace we're most comfortable with.

Hope this helps :)

It does.:thumbsup I think I hung in there up through around 100 and after that just checked pics. So I will pick it up at p.270

Are you just building various pieces to go into the 1/1 or are you involved in the building of the entire thing??

Thanks

Tom

Yes to both. The plan is to eventually build the entire thing - both interior and exterior together. The only hurdles are time, money and space. ;) So... we get to do this ALL over again.

For the meantime, we're building "travel" props to help promote and showcase different parts the build/project. The cockpit is fun but seeing the full scale radar dish would help in understanding how large this build/project actually is.

After a 10 year or so absence from TDH and RPF, figured probably not much had changed.

Boy was I wrong, this is incredible.

Amazing work, amazing commitment, I wish you the best on the rest!

Hi Gang,

Long time no post... Bad Me! We've been enjoying the down time as the Space and Rocket Center renovated their front entrance. But... play time is over and it's time to get back in the swing of things!

I finally gave up on the Krylon paint and switched over to Rust-Oleum - MUCH BETTER! Painted the back wall access panels

We've been doing a LOT of Meet and Greet at the Space & Rocket Center - talking with visitors, project followers, etc. It's been so much fun and the response has been overwhelming!

Finally... JT (from our Geek Media Expo Events) stopped by to say hello... You Crazy Lunatic! I love this guy!

We're getting back into the groove so more updates on the way! Stay Tuned!

Can't wait to see the outer hull skinned bro! That is really looking awesome! BTW - You got a height dimension on the front bucket seats?

Hi R,

Thanks so much and welcome back!

Hopefully, if the stars align, we'll be able to position ourselves with a convention or event that might be a little closer. we would love to see ya! :) And I can't think of a better chair, other than a lazy boy, to have in the boardroom!

Me too! We're really excited to get the skin in place along with the armor plating and misc greeblies. We're not sure if we're going to address greeblies up top of the cockpit - only because people wouldn't see any of the hard work.

We're not sure what we're going to do about thew seats. Starkiller figured out the basic height, but we don't know what the designers used for the seat posts and sliders (if any). It's just another area we may just have to wing it and hope for the best.

So much awesomeness in this thread!!!

Thanks, J! :)

I'm sure as soon as you get the window ribs up everything will start to fall into place! What was the measurement that Steve came up with for the bucket seats? I've been trying to figure it out myself for my build.

I'm nowhere near the model now but I'll check it out later this evening. From what we can tell, the original designers used large pipe adapters as the base - similar to the Nav Chair bases. So again, it remains a mystery.

We're looking at 7" - 13" seat posts with a built in swivel and sliders. I'm wondering if they didn't keep it simple and use seat tracks / sliders. Makes sense to me...

Hi Gang,

All Good Things Come to an End... Well... we just received word that our stay at the Space and Rocket has come to an end. The powers that be desperately tried to find a permanent spot for us but space was very limited and with all the renovations they just couldn't make it work. :(

We are so grateful for the wonderful opportunity we've had to display the cockpit and other misc props, meet and greet all the guests and fans of the build and hope that our relationship with the SRC only grows in the years to come. Thank you to all wonderful folks who put up with our antics and we wish you all the very best. A HUGE thank you to Johnathan who pushed over that first domino that made this adventure come to life. :)

We'll be disassembling / assembling the cockpit over the next several weeks so updates will be minimal at best for quite some time.

More to Follow!

Hey Guys,

We're going to shoot for a quick load out / load in back at the house! We have to CNC 3 new pieces to help with overall vertical support of the main body panels. Once those are cut, we're going to work to get everything back together. In a few weeks OperaScot, the automated quad laser guy, is making another visit to Huntsville to help with the canopy and front window. He's very anxious to get his hands dirty! :)
