1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hi, folks

It's been a while since the quad popped up here, what with life and not want to take away from the cockpit by showing screws get shortened. Since the last update, I got the prototype barrel to reciprocate and, thanks to the redone design, there was no droop as the barrel slid forward. A major improvement over the steel framed version of earlier this year. I got the model from Sofaking of the IG-88 head and broke it into 2 printed parts that sleeve onto each other and the 6" PVC reducer for the body.

And I have a bunch of pictures to put here that for some reason the computer won't let me. Sorry, folks. I'll get this figured out and get back to you. Sofa can attest to the fact that they look kind of cool

Oh, that was a surprise... Those are the new barrel bases for the quad. Those are what the shortened screws were for. (you thought I was joking about those, didn't you?

Still can't get the printed piecs pictures to link, though. But, progress has been made.

Hi Gang,

Morning updates. I didn't get as far I would have liked this weekend. Had WAY too much going on...

I sorted out the 3600 LEDs

I have 7 panels to repaint / re-pinstripe... I'm hoping for at least 1 a week - average. Fingers crossed!

More to Follow!

This really is a 'how to upgrade your Falcon', and all them LEDs - is it actually 3600 lights? Gonna be far out!! The Allen-Bradley buttons look the part too.

Functioning quad cannons too, another part of the dream brought to life, can't wait to see that.

It's going to be interesting to see just how many "original" MF parts they can come up with for the Episode 7 build. Some of the greeblies and whatnot are probably next to impossible to find anymore, which makes me wonder what the newest incarnation will look like. I had heard that the floor panel grates originally used have not been made in ages. Either they still have a bunch on hand, will have to re-create them, or will have to go with something entirely different, yet similar.

I hope JJA stays true to the original design. Yes, there WAS a contrast between the ANH and ESB versions so a slight mod would be expected. I just hope its not a total change of colors and basic pin stripes and button placement. As for greeblies - 3D printers! :) I think the molds exist for the floor grates and I'm poretty sure JJA will insist on complete accuracy with subtle changes. :)

Wouldn't it be great if the Falcon's Ep. VII cockpit sported some scavenged Imperial parts as well?

That would be very interesting. The whole thing is a total mystery! I know when the movie is finally released, I will be doing more studying of the MF than actually enjoying the movie! And of course... if the MF is a total HIT... who knows, we might just change gears and make the one from EP VII! :)

This is absolutely one of my favourite thread!!!

Hi E,

Thanks so much! I should be back at it this evening. :)

Hey W,

OH YEAH... We aim to please! ;) The original LED number was around 1800 or so... The 3600 LEDs came from the decision to backlight ALL the blue and white tiles and the numerous panel lights on the back wall. When I added all those it was around 3200. I added the additional 400 just in case of any surprises that might come up.

Our quad has been put on the back burner. Scott and I have a few special plans / projects we're hoping to get done for Celebration. One of the projects is pretty cool and we're working out the final details! More info to come! I'm really looking forward to seeing what Scot (the other one) will do with his Quad! Should be awesome! Also... another RPF member is about to tackle the Nav Computer! (I'll let him reveal his or herself in time) So... lots happening for Celebration!

Because he kept the Enterprise completely consistent with the source material... ;)

SofaKing, I have a question about all that pinstriping. Are you putting a clear coat over it? Everything I have ever pin striped eventually began to peel up. What are you doing to avoid this?

Hi Gang,

Close to finishing up this panel. I'm waiting for the screen accurate greeblie to arrive!

Picked a few more packs of pin stripes

I wound up having to change a bit of the design with the additional holes added... but I think it looks ok.

There should be some packages arriving this week!

This is the greeblie that was used on the original ESB cockpit (NOT the same one). This should arrive in a few days!

Hi L,

Yes. When I finish a panel I spray it with a clear semi-gloss to help keep the pin stripes in place. It's 99% solution and has worked very well. I'm getting ready to spray 3 panels this evening. :) Hope this helps?

Hi Gang,

Had a busy non-Falcon related day yesterday. While I'm waiting for a few greeblies to arrive I've decided to attack ALL the panels and remove ALL the other greeblies and pin stripes before painting again. This way I can sand and paint everything at once. :)

Got a few panels started late last night.
