You guys are kicking it hard on this build! As always this is my go-to smile thread, and princess Leia on the quad makes it BIG smile thread today. :D ;)

Hi Gang,

Work continues on the nav chair... I really thought this would have gone by a lot faster but whew... sanding sanding sanding and more sanding... This just isn't fun anymore!

Adding more details

These edges were then routed

Added primer filler - the entire chair is flat black minus the silver greeblies, the back side and of course the tan padding

Hi Gang,

Lots of little updates this weekend. Enjoy!

Spent a few minutes getting the console back into the cockpit - we needed to free up some floor space for an upcoming event at the lab... Scott was a big help! ;)

We spotted this PC cooling fan and thought it would make an AWESOME greeblie similar to the two on the Nav Computer in the MF hull - mike added some simple blue LEDs

Jake and I got to chatting... we're going to light the cockpit. Nothing spectacular... but ALL the LED holes will be filled and have a flash pattern.

More to Come!

SK-

It's been awhile since I chimed in (but trust me, I check your thread almost hourly ;))

The cockpit looks brilliant. The addition of the swing arms will make a huge difference in being able to enjoy the "real" cockpit experience.

The seats are coming along nicely -it's always magic when parts you're working on become a "thing".

sorry, couldn't resist:D

ok, i still can not figure out how to place pics at full size...grumble...what button am i missing?

Hey BD,

Thanks so much! I have to admit I've been slacking a bit... Shame on me. But... things are about to kick into overdrive once again! We've decided to light this cockpit - JUST the LEDs, light bars, the radar scope and a few more little surprises (sounds & misc effects). I'm not going to pop the small blue and white tiles off. We're hoping that should be enough. We've also decided to one up ourselves and, taking advantage of the CNC and laser cutters, build a WHOLE NEW cockpit. This one will have ALL the bells and whistles.

We're not sure what's going to happen to the old one once finished... :confused

Stand by for some GOOD STUFF

Hey! The build made it on a Mythbusters/Adam Savage page...

Congrats!!

Sweet!

Hey J,

Thanks os much! The seat and back pads will be covered this week! I'm hoping to get paint on at least one of the chairs - this should help with the overall look and feel. :)

Love the shots of the new seat inside the cockpit. Looks like a real cockpit getting fitted out :)

Hi C,

Thanks! The nav chairs are going to make all the difference in the world. Mike and I are still tossing ideas around for the upper cowl.... That one part will make or break the entire chair. We have to do it right!

Hi E,

Thanks so much! It's funny you mention the swing arms... Mike was actually able to swing himself into position... Good thing there is a "Hot Yoga" place right next door - I thought he pulled something trying to get in and out... Daniel and I will be looking at welding something for the seats. This is one of the many priorities...

I FINALLY saw the light at the end of this LONG nav chair tunnel. Once I add color to the chair and the padding is in place, they will definitely look the part.

If the old one needs a home, let me know! ;) I'd be glad to drive down and pick it up :D

Hi M,

The Steamfest show (a few weeks back) saw the console receive an incredible amount of battle damage... the button panel was one of many areas to be hit. Many of the solders came loose or broke. The light is supposed to be off but something is wrong... I'm hoping Scott will be able to jump on this before we head up to Nashville for another 1 day event. The way he's been sitting with his feet up, I'm sure he's all rested up by now.

EDIT: I just talked to Scott and he told me NOT to touch the button... and then I heard a evil laugh before he hung up... ;)

Dude, since the cockpit seats will be the only available...any rest would be there!!:angel
Hope You know that the vinyl have to be cut 45 degrees each side and then a nice pull, and then saple in place with contact spray glue previously applied, to avoid those ugly wrinkles at the corners! :rolleyes

Love the teamwork and love the real life photos!!:D(y)thumbsup

Kind regards,

Alberto

Hi Gang,

Sorry for the lack of updates... severe weather kept most of us home and businesses closed for the past few days... I should be able to jump back on the project this evening :)

Sofaking since you have several experiences presenting the cockpit to the people, do you have plans to make more "people-proof", using stronger materials to the more high risk areas?
