1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi G

Got the last switch this morning, and it is the smaller one I was hoping for. Out of all three, these two look the most accurate, and I should be in a position to make their moulds, and the light cover mould by the end of the week to coincide with the moulds I'll be making for my other project :thumbsup

Hey C,

GREAT NEWS! I'm really excited to see those dome panel light lenses! Dont forget to post pics!

Standing by!

Hi Chico,

Just wanted to thank you for the VERY kinds words. I apologize for not seeing your post sooner. I'm hoping for some real progress this weekend.

I'm also chatting with Steve Starkiller - I have another idea I'm working...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I can only imagine how amazing this new version will look. The current version is amazing as it is. Looking forward to seeing how it will turn out!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

This is where the fun begins... HI GANG! I'm back!! After my trip to San Fran, CA and then being sick... I am ready to get moving!

This morning's run to the home improvement store getting supplies...
IMAG0349.jpg

Taking measurements. I attached both pieces of MDF together with screws and cut them at the same time. This will ensure both pieces are the same - or both screwed up... :)
IMAG0350.jpg

Base almost complete - I am so glad to be far away from the formica
IMAG0355.jpg

I sanded down a few rough spots on the quad and it gave the appearance of weathering...

IMAG0354.jpg

I dont want to bore you with too many pics of the initial build. It's basically the same thing minus the dreaded formica. Unless you guys want pics? :)

Stay Tuned!

UPDATES!!

I've made a few minor dimension changes - nothing major or project threatening...

I should have it skinned by the end of the day! :)

I know this is probably VERY boring... But I've ordered the blue and white illumintaed push buttons. When those arrive... the fun begins! Plus I'll redesign the two back boxes along with other mods and updates compared to the first static version...

I'm also consdering making a backdrop for the static console... you'll see... :)

Feels good to be out there working again!

Once the console is skinned, filled, sanded and primed I'll begin to work on the instrument panels and then begin the task of marking out all the holes for LEDs, lights, switches and misc greeblies. I might create a few access panels as well. But I'm still thinking everything through.

More to Come

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

As I always do, I checked the build right before I went to work and I noticed something... I'm not sure when it happened but something shifted during the build and the dimensions are off. So, it would appear I'll have to disassemble the console and try to repair it.

I was a little surpirsed I didnt see it sooner... of course it was hot and humid and my eyes full of saw dust... so... NO... I can't do it. No excuses! UGH... BUT... I'm not working with formica! :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Gah! I hate when that happens. Soldier on though, as I'm dying to see the final result! Ah, to have space for full scale environments.....

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I'll march forward... Better to catch it now than later. :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Damn you Murphy!!!! (Shakes fi:st violently at air!!!!) :eek:angry:cool

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I have a feeling I know what happened... One of the 2X4s I used as the frame work was LOADED with knots. When I started drilling the pilot holes I was hitting many of the knots. I'm wondering if it shifted off center?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Sorry for no updates... Work has been kicking the cr@p out of me since I got back... and the weather isnt helping either. But not to worry... I've been tinkering with a few ideas for the quad laser along with trying to fix the newest console.

As always, stay tuned...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang... tried getting out there this evening after work. It's just too hot and humid to do anything that late in the day.

Sorry... :(

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Minor Update:

I was able to finally get the basic yokes finished up - still trying to find those pesky "handles"
IMAG0368.jpg

And this is how Console #2 looks today... I'll be sure to take plenty of measurements

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hey Gang!

I'm BACK! I'm going full throttle this weekend and already knocked out the one part of the "static" console build I was NOT looking forward to!

Found more greeblies at the home improvement store.

Vinyl bumpers are perfect for small buttons
IMAG0370.jpg

Here's the plan for the static console. I'll replace the button display with the vinyl bumpers after paint
IMAG0371.jpg

The part of the build I was dreading... I still have to fill and sand but the cutting part is finished! I cut all the static rocker knobs for the instrument panel...
IMAG0372.jpg

More to come!!!! :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

MORE UPDATES!

Started reworking the throttle housing
IMAG0381.jpg

Created upper and lower quad barrel supports
IMAG0380.jpg

IMAG0379.jpg

IMAG0378.jpg

Added filler to the panel rocker switches (static)
IMAG0382.jpg

IMAG0383.jpg

Now you know why I was dreading this part of the build! :)
IMAG0384.jpg

Painted and ready to mount!
IMAG0385.jpg

Its started raining so I had to close up shop. When it starts to rain the humidity levels skyrocket so this might be it for any major updates this evening. Tomorrow I'm hoping to have both the throttle housing near complete with all the greeblies and the rocker knobs... stay tuned!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

The storm front that went through cooled things off enough for me to sand down the switch knobs and get another layer of primer added. They are a bit tough to see - the final version will be white with a small black dot on one of the top faces.

I will add more pin striping to the panel along with more "LED" holes similar to those within the "red" pinstripes...

I can't believe how close this is to being finished! :)
