1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

If you did kits, I think 1/6 scale makes much more sense because you can find figures for it. I'm not aware of much that comes in 1/4 scale.

Hey LT,

While a 1/4 scale kit is DEF out of the ordinary... the cool thing, IMO, is that nobody else has done it. It would def stand out among others. Hot Toys has their 1/6th scale cockpit to go along with their figures so my doing a 1/6th kit wouldn't be anything special. Thankfully, I already have files for 3 different scales: 1/1, 1/4 and 1/6 and I can always scale up or down to create more if I wanted.

Also, Izzy and I are working together on his 1/6th scale do I DEF don't want to take away from his project. If I do offer a 1/4 scale kit, this might inspire a few folks to create 1/4 scale action figures.

Who knows... maybe a whole new segment of scale models could be created! :)

Beautiful work as always Sofaking. How are you planning to surface the panels? don't tell me you're going to do pin-striping by hand at 1/4 scale?

It's been a long time since I regularly contributed to this thread, but with this post, I'm changing that.

here is the present state of the Full Scale Falcon's interior model. more to come soon.

That interior model is fantastic! I can't wait until we're actually there walking around! :)

Not sure how I'm going to approach the pin striping. Two thoughts... either print a decal and apply and carefully punch holes for the LEDs or I'll paint and apply the PS by hand. I'm leaning toward the decal. My only concern is aligning everything perfectly!

Definitely working on a fully rendered walkthrough.

for your sanity's sake, I hope you go with a decal. Alignment might be a pain, but you only have to do it once per panel. There are programmable paper cutters, I wonder if you could save time by printing the decal and having it cut out using the same file you used to cut the boards. That way, no tedious manual hole punching

Looking forward to the walk-through! Is the interior fully detailed?

The only holes I really need to worry about are the blue and white tiles. If I'm careful, and everything aligns, I don't have to punch the holes for the smaller fiber optics. The light can simply shine through the paper - at least that's the idea!

Hi Gang,

Not much of a visual update. I've been plugging away designing the new 1/4 scale console along with prepping for the 1/1 scale construction updates that include the new shelf and platform updates. Should be a fun weekend! Speaking of 1/4 scale...

After primer dried I added more filler

I may wind up recutting all of these. The laser cutter wasn't 100% but I'll see how they turn out

Could you not create semi-rigid, reusable masks? Tape them down and airbrush the lines onto the console?

Hey LT,

At this scale, using masks would be really time consuming. I have no doubt it would look amazing and I wouldn't have to worry about the pin stripes curling or shrinking but I'm using the 1/4 scale as a test for when we build cockpit V2. I really like the idea of a decal which is what we're considering for the new cockpit as well. We already have a printer lined up so it's just a matter of what material to use as the base for the large "decal" to adhere - Formica is my first choice.

Still a great idea and I might cut 3 test panels for all 3 options: paint, pin stripe and decal :)

Greg,

You could always use pinstripe tape. They make it in every size and color. Hobbymasters has a pretty good selection:

Izzy

Hey Iz,

Another DEF option! Thinking more about the PS, I wouldn't have the same temperature issues I currently have with the full scale cockpit - peeling and shrinking PS. The 1/4 scale would stay inside and wouldn't be exposed to the always changing weather.

Hi Gang,

A little forward progress this morning...

Another light sanding, a few more pieces of acrylic to laser cut, another coat of filler, color and then several of these greeblies will get their final coat of silver

Why?
i don't believe Han Solo would have cared for such cosmetic aspects - In my opinion, a mismatch here or there makes it even more authentic!
you're not trying to replicate a factory fresh YT-1300 here...

Looking mighty good Sofa! Yep, that airbrush is needed for those 1/6 greeblies. That rubber flooring will look very good in the cockpit for sure.

Holy ****! This is an epic build. Absolutely stunning. I wish you the best of luck on finishing this up. I will be subscribing to this thread so I don't miss anything.

Hi Gang,

Super Mega Update! :)

Work continues on the front nose. I cut two layers of the 1/8" MDF to fit the nose panels. I'm waiting to adhere the second layer so I can use as template to cut the corrugated rubber.

Hi Gang,

Another one of those quick morning updates... Started to align all the cockpit entrance greeblies. A few of them might have to be recut using thicker acrylic to adjust the sense of scale.
