1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hi Gang,

The past few days have been insane! 15-18 hour days for many of us. Unfortunately, the laser cutter isn't working and the CNC was down for a few days once again pushing our schedule back even further. Because of the craziness I didn't take as many photos as I would have liked. But... we've still been able to get a LOT done. Enjoy!

The old console wiring has been updated and repaired

As many of you know we picked up a wooden shift handle very similar to the original "El Toro" Shift Handles used on the yokes. Daniel is actually molding a new one. Once dried it will be sanded down to match the original size and shape then we'll make several molds

Again, my apologies for not enough photos. It's been a zoo! Unfortunately, we've decided to stop progress on the canopy in order to not only address a few growing concerns but also focus our attention on the wiring and other vital areas.

I'm sure a lot of you have been asking why the mad rush... why are they working these late nights? You may or may not be aware but Episode VII is RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!!!! We've been in talks with the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center to display the cockpit for the opening premiere! Our latest round of talks has the cockpit on display for at least 3 months! We're all VERY EXCITED but we're still in the discussion stages so we're not sure of the fine details just yet! That's why we're scrambling. We want to daze and amaze! And with only one weekend left... who knows what's going to happen! Fingers Crossed!

And this goes without saying, a HUGE THANK YOU to the entire team for another round of late nights, boxes of Oreo cookies, pizza, great company and excellent times! :)

More to Follow!

I honestly do not think I've ever seen a more devoted project than this one. It's just beautiful. I've showed all my friends and their jaws have just instantly dropped to the floor. Exceptional work.

Simply outstanding and unbelievable amount of dedicated and work going into this. Not enough superlatives to describe.

Hi Gang,

Another weekend come and gone. As you know it has been non-stop for the team and once again I didn't take as many pics as I would have liked as we were all engaged and focused. We all hope you are enjoying the progress and watching everything come together. Enjoy...

The new yokes were "vapor polished" with acetone. This make sanding and prep much easier! I'm hoping we'll be able to mount these before the show!

20151206_150245_zpsloegg16y.jpg

Daniel and I worked on the door frame assembly and cockpit entrance / back wall. This was / is very complicated because there are so many factors to take into consideration: door clearance, door track, ease of assembly, wall assembly, transport, etc etc etc
20151206_112319_zpsplc8vj8x.jpg

The door frame assembly will be countersunk into the platform with a 3/4" base - another one of these many factors to think about

The Cockpit Entrance

The cockpit entrance wall will sit approx 18" off the back of the main body essentially housing the door frame. It will be 3 separate pieces (Left, Right and Top) that will bolt to the main body and to each other. We're hoping to then skin this great beast!

Next few things are to figure out exactly how the window mounts to the frame, close in the exposed sides, prime, sand and then paint. Simple right?

Awesome update. Hopefully you'll have the yokes done. Would love to see how they look on the console. :D. Looks like you have the ILM team working non stop. As always the highlight of my morning. :)

Ok Greg... I have a solution for the whole "How to get it out of the garage" mess... see... here's what you do... you tear the wall out of the side exposed to the outside... then get a bunch of jacks and put them under the house foundation and lift the house and move it to left/right about 30-50 feet. Then you put the house back down and viola... it's out!

When you put it that way it doesn't sound difficult at all! ;)

Wow!

Wow!

Wow!

Two things: 1) I love it when you say, "sorry, not very many pictures this time," and then there's STILL a ton of pics. You're like Doc Brown apologizing for not painting/building his model of Hill Valley to scale! 2) I love seeing the shots of the whole team in action. You should give each other cool Rogue Squadron-inspired call signs. ;-)

A really unbelievable art project and a work of absolute unreal dedication. I honestly don't know how you are getting so many details right. What kind of reference pictures must you have? How do you know what some of the lesser seen sides even look like?

And then to get minute greeblies accurate -- how much would you say you are fabricating from scratch? Not found?

All I can say is thanks for the wonderful images. When you're done, you need to do an epic photo shoot. Wallpapers for everyone!

Hi BF,

Thanks so much! It really has become a labor of love at this point. We're all so excited to see how close we are to finishing this part of the build. And as exhausted as we all are the overall mood is nothing less than excitement and determination.

I scan the internet almost everyday for images of the cockpit and I screen grab what I can for different angles of the cockpit and other parts of the ship. Of course, a lot of this project is built upon Starkiller's original work and his dedication to build a screen accurate 3D model of the MF. For me, that's the pinnacle of perfection and I strive to meet and match that same dedication.

As far as the lesser seen areas, I just wing it. However, I use other images of similar greeblies for inspiration and direction. When you pour over countless images and screen grabs, you begin to get a sense of understanding how the original designer's put everything together and how they were weathered.

I would say 90-95% of the greeblies are hand fabricated. We've only found a handful of actual parts used but we're saving those for the actual build - if we ever get there!

Thanks again for the very kind words and I hope all that made sense. : )

Unusually quiet here, must all be working round the clock on the cockpit project!

lol... yeah... we've been working away!

He probably bent his laser bit again and ripped a hole in the fabric of time. If that's the case then I calculate he'll probably return in about 13.562 hours... but he might have a bit of time lag and need to take a shower before getting back online to post anything again. That new laser cutter has been causing these problems since he got it! LOL

No more talk about the laser cutter. Bad laser cutter!

Hello Mister King, I've been a silent fan of your work for a little more than 2 years if not 3 I don,t remember.. And I'm beyond excitement to see the extraordinary job you,ve done since de beginning. I've waited until today to create a profile just to tell you how much i love your work and dedication... I should,ve done it earlier but i think i wasn,t able then to create a profile! Oh well, I'm from Montréal Canada. Yes i'm a french canadian with a good english LOL i'm a costume desinger and set designer. and I love building stuff. Hi Eric,

Welcome to the RPF! Thank you so much for the very kind words. It means so much to all of us that we not only share the same enthusiasm but we're also able to share the project with everybody.

Sounds like you're having a great time with your own projects. I know we would all enjoy seeing some images of your work. :)

Hi C,

Thanks so much! I can't begin to tell you how honored I am to be working with such a wonderful group of people. They continue to daze and amaze! With that being said, we're aiming for speechless... But I think jaw dropping is just as good! ;)

Hi R,

Thank you! This last week will test everybody's dedication! I hope I have enough Pizza, Oreos, Little Debbie "Fill in the Blanks" and Mountain Dew to keep these guys going! ;)

Hey M,

Thanks! If I had taken pics of the entire weekend there would have been... 300-400 photos easy. We were going non-stop! It was an amazing weekend. :)

I like the idea of call signs for ea member. Great idea!
